Q: Is it possible enter China as a foreigner for work currently?

Hello,

Is it impossible to enter China as a foreigner for work (either in Business or English) currently? Any tips for securing a work permit/visa?

Thanks

My friends who are managing schools still can't recruit from outside of China because of the borders being closed, as far as I know that doesn't look like it's going to change anytime soon. If you have a current existing residence permit etc you can re-enter the country, going through the usual quarantine process obviously but no new visas are being issued.

I don't know about business visas but I suspect it wouldn't be much different. For up to date info you could probably contact the Chinese embassy in your country.

I suspect if you are a high flier with serious money behind you, you can come and go as you please.

As per how things are playing out.

Yep, no doubt. Likewise if you're a rocket scientist or something, someone with a sought after skill, they'd have no trouble getting a visa. Those people won't be posting here though and wannabe English teachers need not waste their time applying.

Could you please list some hiring agencies or explain how to come in contact with headhunters/recruiters for foreigners wanting to work in China? Thank you!

sorrel:

just use a search engine using the appropriate work area headings that you are looking for.

for example:

China  / jobs / the area/field you want to work in.

You'll come in the contact with hiring agents by applying at Jobs here. They're advertising job vacancies throught this website, also.

While I have no evidence of this, I suspect that a couple of weeks prior to the Beijing Olympics, China will reopen. With other asian nations opening around November 1, China is surely going to follow others. To shutdown again after the Olympics would not be realistic, unless there is a huge outbreak as a result of all these new foreigners coming into the country. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, with a possible opening within the first couple of months in 2022.

octavo:

I've read, elsewhere online, that even for Olympics, the borders will remain closed for spectators. Only foreigners who are curently inside China would be permitted to attend the event.

OCTOBER 13, 2021

China is not open for tourism, only national citizens and foreign nationals with valid residence permits and some special types of visas are allowed to enter.

All arrivals must agree to a 3-week quarantine and a variety of invasive COVID-19 tests. (See below).

Travelers arriving from countries where new strains of the virus have been discovered, such as the U.K. and South Africa, must take 4 nucleic acid tests. Their household members will also be required to take said tests.

I am currently in China and looking to change jobs, as I have my location set as China I am getting offers flying in . Once I have a chat with the recruiter or school the very first thing they ask is " are you currently in China ?" so going by this and that many job advertiements state must be in China it might be difficult for you my friend . However this is China so anything is possible so don't give up and keep applying as you may get lucky.

It's quite difficult in my experience, but you can get around the PU letter requirement by being inoculated with Chinese vaccines, which I plan to do.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change student visa to labourer one is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
