This up-voting and down-voting junk distresses some users of the board. Why? Because the process is too arbitrary and frivolous, does not legitimize genuine and sincere questions or responses, and often is based on personal biases, based on perceived and hypothetical interpretations of posters personae (a lot of fakers out there) or endless, time-wasting bantering leading nowhere.
I propose a system such as Facebook has in place. A thumbs-up Like. If you "like" a post, you click on the thumbs-up icon. If you don't like a post, you don't click on anything. There is no thumbs-down Hate thingie. Simple, non-threatening, and gentile.
So, Admin. If you read each and every post like the good boy/girl you are, you'll consider this suggestion. On the other hand, if you don't give a hairy rat's ass and get a jolly whenever posters who have never met each other in person start having a go at one another, you'll ignore this suggestion. Eh, just a suggestion.
At the end of the day, I really don't give a sh*t one way or another how you conduct your board. I still enjoy it. But some people don't...

you mean 'no thumbs-down Hate thingy'?
Red_Fox:
No. I mean the "no thumbs-down Hate thingy". And that reminds me. You get a thumbs down for your very original, witty, erudite remark!
Now, where is that thingy... ADMIN!!!!!!
Red_Fox:
Oh, crap. I can't spell, can I? Thingie is really thingy? Okay. I retract my TD, but can't undo. Sorry, sport.
hel no. if anyone is overly sensitive then internet forums is not the place for them. they need to bring back down votes for the articles comments section!
No, why ? If anything the downvotes should count against peoples points
Red_Fox:
There's a point system? What's the point? Do you win a prize or something useful like a toaster or a vacuum cleaner? A voucher for a free lunch? Money? An invitation to an Amway "lecture"?
Guess I better start racking up points. I'm way behind...
Traveler:
If you take points off for a thumbs down, you lose points every time you post.
Silva and his one man fan club down vote everything from foreigners. They both have multiple accounts.
GuilinRaf:
Well, the gifts are not really worth it anymore.
Used to be you could get a VPN for free. Not the best, but it was good enough (hello!!! it was FREE!!!) but that is sadly no longer available.
Someone once suggested exchanging the points for beer. I would be okay with that, even if it is Tsingtao or Yanjing....
philbravery:
Im still waiting for a jacket I orders weeks ago
this happened last year too
so I don't bother anymore
Scandinavian:
@phil. Don't be so negative, I am sure the delivery guy likes his new jacket.
TedDBayer:
I'm stil waiting for my jacket, ordered almost 2 years ago.
icnif77:
Jackets (@phil&@Ted) shouldn't be delivered from the Hospital, or...?
Am just asking......
"Some posters at 'eChinacities' are waiting for their 'jackets' ........" could be the beginning of a blog...... can't breathe, where's my O2 tank, .....?Actually, I was trying to be nice to the sensitive dudes - Dave, Californiaz, and a few others whose fake names escape me now. Anyway, a board is exactly what it sounds like: bored. So, why not aim and fire? No harm intended.
DaveP84:
I say leave it as it is. What would people like me have to complain about otherwise?
TedDBayer:
The only thing I don't like is that comments roll up and I don't always see them. I'm bored because I'm fed up with mattys posts and answers. He got worse before he was banned last summer. I thought there wasn't going to be multy accounts and banned was banned so WTF?
I never read any responses but.....my answer is NO ..... I think it is only right that we sometimes get up and down votes
BHGAL:
sanford and son has to learn a little ...... ask ted for the 1000 flashlights that he has earned on here.... or if you want, I have a jacket worth ###### of points, that you can have.................. a very rewarding bunch of people here on eChinacities..... just be nice and informative and all is good
I think thumbs down should be limited to 10 per day. Also, you need a certain points level to be able to vote.
There's a few on here that have multiple accounts to give themselves more points, and to give others more thumbs down.
bill8899:
Says the man with two thumbs down, for no apparent reason.
crimochina:
no no n o no no, everyone and anyone should be able to downvote saliva even guests!
Traveler:
But wouldn't it be better if we could take away Silva and his buddy's power to downvote. That's the only power they have in the whole wide world, and they would be devastated without it.
Samsara:
Traveler - If a point total was required to vote, it would take Silva a day or two to reach it on his other accounts. He isn't ashamed of spamming.
I have a modest 500 points, which Silva could probably achieve in under a week.
The restriction you suggest would disadvantage people who only post when they have something to say, and wouldn't prove much of an obstacle to Silva.
I'm not in favour of restrictions, no matter how well-intentioned. Placing restrictions on people you disapprove of doesn't result in harmony. See China.
I cry when I get a thumbs-down.
Do it, I know you want to.
Go ahead.
icnif77:
you must ask for up-vote. Then, you'll be send to a freezer.
Well they don't really serve a purpose when people abuse them. Look at the music thread, every post in it has a downvote, because somebody went full retard.
