There doesn't seem to be much regard towards what food is available to students on their lunch break. The canteen food is not exactly healthy and many kids simply run off to mcDonalds or Pizza Hut during their break. Then they come back with a small army of snacks. Why don't schools try to promote healthy eating to minimize obesity? Students really are getting bigger waiste lines here and it doesn't take an idiot to see the culprits.

Same as back home.
Parents are working longer hours might aswell grab something quick to eat at cheap prices.
Parents would rather have the kids study instead of exercise.
One of students in a training school i worked in was bribed by his mother to do things with sweets: a 40Kg 6 year old at the time

Seen a newly rich mother at KFC buying the already over obese 6-8 y/old kid 2 buckets of chicken legs, along with a pallet of fries and couple of hamburgers to top it up.
You know, like the ones in the KFC advertisement the characters buy (one) for a 12 people party......
Because it would go against 5000 years of tradition. It would invalidate TMC. Education is not the purpose of the schools here, A population armed with information and knowledge is difficult to control.
Healthy food costs a lot of money.
My wife and friends grew up eating mostly school food, and it wasn't very nutritious. These schools simply don't have the money to give children good nutrition, unless the parents are rich.
The principals need their BMWs, the CCP needs their luxury cars, foreign citizenships, private jets, etc. Then they need to continue looting the majority of the money from the Chinese economy so they can leave China quickly. You know, like the 20k+ other officials...?
EDIT: Oh, your question was different and I went off on a rant. They already know these foods aren't good for them, but they don't care. I met so many people who said they didn't want to eat at those restaurants because they were afraid they'd get all fat and stuff. Of course, I talked them into eating it anyway. :(

In china nutritious food is cheap. The problem is how they cook it and what they add to it; oil , salt, spices, MSG and who knows what else .
Scandinavian:
actually, the problem is how they produce the food. because everything is genetically modified and drenched in fertilizer and pesticides, things grow without getting taste. if you do proper farming the food will have more flavor and you can cook it without frying the hell out of it and soaking it in soy sauce.
the cooking style means any vitamins there might be in the food are gone by the time it hits your stomach.
food in China is extremely low quality..
Hulk:
No, you're wrong... the food is poisonous... if you want healthy food, you need to pay for it to be grown and delivered correctly, and without funny chemicals.
Hulk:
Both. A few vegetables here and there, and a few pieces of meat isn't healthy. Neither is eating noodles and rice all the time. It's the reason why so many older (and some younger) Chinese are so short. Not enough nutrition.
It also isn't healthy when the crops were poisoned in 10 different ways.
It's not possible to eat healthy in China. And spending time teaching about health takes away focus from what is really important. Learning poems written by the first Chairman

Ouuu, I am bit worried about, what my son is feeded with in kindergarden. I mean both, food and teaching :)
Scandinavian:
Don't worry, when your kid is old enough, you can flush out most stuff with vodka.
