So I've been in China for years, and I always used to work at universities, but now I'm over in international high school programs (more money, like twice as much money). Unfortunately, it means I have no foreign co-workers. The problem is I don't know anybody. I've been in Harbin and haven't really made any friends at all. I'm married, but my wife isn't a harbin local so she doesn't really know anybody either. I cant go to bars and clubs (too old, and she won't let me, and Chinese clubs suck anyway). I really just want to have dinner parties, and run d&d, or play poker, or do something with people. My Chinese language skills suck, and I'm not rally supposed to talk to 18 year old girls anymore, so what's left?
-How do you make friends if you are the only foreigner at your job?

Is there an expat website for your city? Sometimes people organize events through those.

Try some of the Russian web page's
If you are there in march ill give you a call
I haven't looked around there yet, but I just saw a Harbin page on reddit. You might get some good advice there.
It's too cold there! 'spit and ice cube hits the floor....'
Otherwise, I always run away, when somebody call me 'my friend'.
It never happened, somebody would say: 'My friend, here is $100 for you....', and it always happened 'My friend, do me a favor......' or ' My friend, give me this or that...'
The best way to meet people is to go visit hookers in the hotel and wait for the government to crack down and arrest you. You'll be in the newspaper, and everyone will know who you are. Then you'll walk down the street and everyone will try to talk to you. You'll be known as Brother Lover, or Brother Tucker, or whatever.
Either that or you'll be beaten and deported for trying to have sex in China on a 30 day visa.
My experience has often been that after I've met people I soon begin to wish I hadn't. But I really would like to have a good mate to share similar interests with. I has such a mate in Qingdao years ago and I'd be happy to run into him again.
I live in a city that's on the same line of latitude as Harbin but in over 3 years here I've never seen the place reported on. Off topic.
Well, if ever in Acheng (near harbin) we would be happy to meet you both. I am from Ohio and have a family here as well.
