I considering purchasing a bicycle helmet on taobao because they're much cheaper there than at the few stores that actually carry them here, but I'm concerned that if it doesn't fit I won't be able to return it.
Anybody know how well returns/refunds work on taobao? Does it make sense for me to order multiple sizes, see which one fits better, and then return the other (a la Zappos), or am I going to get screwed into keeping both helmets?
It will vary from shop to shop what their policy is. My wife has ordered some shoes and they didn't fit, she wrote the shop saying that they needed to be one size bigger, some days later a delivery guy showed up with another pair of shoes and took the first pair.
If you are capable of chatting with the shop, they would be able to maybe instruct you precisely on what their policy is.
Won't be a problem, just need to verify with the store first that you can return it if it doesn't fit. You shouldn't have any problem finding a seller on taobao that allows this.
Just keep in mind you might have to pay for the extra shipping though, so take that into consideration on how much money you would be saving.
My girlfriend runs a Taobao shop, and people often send the goods back.. In some cases, they even use them for a week or two and then send them back all dirty and used. Worse than that, if she doesn't give a refund then they punish her by giving her a black flower / bad review, it's like Chinese style blackmail.. Getting bad reviews on Taobao is a sure way to permanently damage future sales, although in some cases she can appeal to Taobao with evidence and they'll remove negative reviews if they were a used as blackmail/extortion.
My girlfriend's shop requires that if people send the goods back for a reason other than there is a problem with the goods, then the person needs to pay return shipping.. That's usually what happens, but sometimes people buy from her shop and decide they don't like the item and want my girlfriend to pay return shipping and threaten to leave a bad review if she doesn't... This happens a lot more than we would like even though my girlfriend's shop "screens" people buying products from her and if their Taobao has a long history of returning goods and leaving bad reviews, she won't let them buy from her shop and just cancels their order. Some people don't have a Taobao history though, and she usually just processes the order and sometimes later finds that they're not so nice people :(.. It's pretty rare though <2%..
