the electric scooter is a good idea, but you can't top it up and go like a gas one, range is limited and a spare battery I'm told is expensive. Whats a good gas scooter. I don't know if anything I saw was Honda etc. Honda would be my first choice.

The trouble with a gas scooter is that you're supposed to have a license and it has to be registered. It depends what city you live in, as some of them enforce these rules vigorously and they will confiscate it.
An Ebike is okay for about 40kms if you get the heavy duty batteries when you buy it ; 20amp, but you really need to understand how to ride these bikes to get the best from them. The batteries should last as long as you look after the charging..don't run them flat, they will cost about 500rmb for a new set...20Amp Hour.
I have a bigger Ebike with silicon batteries that cost 500rmb each X 5, they are 46 Amp Hour though. As my bike is for export local people can't buy them. Be careful if you try to buy one because some of the factories will not give you after sales service. Also I believe I couldn't have my Ebike in Hangzhou as the police would confiscate it.
I'm a gas guy, I do license and register the scooter (and motorcycle) and buy Japanese (quality first I say) then i can maintain it myself and lets face it they're built more reliably.
I'd rather have gas, fill it drive it, no waiting.Do you need a Chese drivers license? Are Jap scooter easy to buy? What size is yrs Njord? I drove a gas scooter there, surprised it moved that well, don't know the cc of the thing. What are they 125?
