I aim to pass the driving test but I heard from someone (who hasn't passed the test himself, which is why I distrust him), that there's a color-blind exam to get your license here.
Anyone know if this is true? I actually suffer from this (partially - certain colors I can't distinguish at all) and was super down when I heard this.

It's true. Before you can even take the 100 question exam, you have to receive a certificate from a hospital which includes said color-blind test. You could probably just take a Chinese friend with you, pretend not to speak any Chinese, and have them answer the questions to the doctor for you......assuming the doctor can't speak english.
My memory is they showed you a picture with patterns, and a number was embedded into the pattern using different colors. The doctor would then ask you what number you saw.

They also have one with an animal on it. The one I had to distinguish was a horse.
Yes its truth, you have to pass the test at local hospital, i'm also color-blind and i tried 3 times , damn every single time fail. even tried RED-GREEN optical lens " bought on taobao" but fail ! This time i ordered Glasses $499 from " enchorma" damn pretty expeinve but i have to pass this dmn test. waiting for them. let's see if i can still pass the test or not ! WHY I CANT FIND ANYONE WHO TAKES SOME BR** & PASS ME :( !
Living in Guangzhou :(
I don't understand why a colour blind test would be needed, all lights are in sequence. It's not like they change at random.
