has this happened to anyone else? She was about 25 years old, but a little immature.
It sounds like you are just looking for justification for being mean. I think you were just as immature as her.
I'm thinking, there might be a difference between male and female dog.
In China!
I always have clean handkerchief ready! Just in case.
I think the fat part was more insulting to her than the other word.
jetfire9000:
If it comes back to bite him, he could always use the Chinese excuse to her "fat" is a cute and playful word, and that she misundersood...........
Beautifulsoup:
Maybe, but I feel they throw that word around here pretty freely.
Chinese bully each other, and a critical woman is considered acceptable. She was showing interest in you, probably. Instead of complimenting your handsomeness, girls show concern for your health by scolding you for being fat. It's a good wife's duty.
You? You just insulted a girl for showing interest in you. Way to go.
coineineagh:
Sure, there are more women on People Mountain, or People Ocean, as Chinese refer to themselves. But most of them will do exactly the same, so learn your lesson!
According to my wife, any name calling involving dogs is very rude even if said in obvious jest as most people have a low opinion of dogs traditionally.
Pig name calling suggests some playfulness ie: you sleep like a pig.
You forgot the basic thing that even though they might be physically 25 years old, you are still dealing with the mind of a 14-16 year old.
you don't give the context of the exchange: did you know her well, or was she a relative stranger?
Maybe her 'compliment' was lost in translation, or you were having a BCD. Maybe she was just looking for attention in a childish sort of way.
also, 'hurt feelings' are common in exchanges between locals and foreigners.
Bottom line is that you are not dealing with a 25 year old woman from most other countries in the world.
laowaigentleman:
Why are Chinese women so immature? Maybe I should start a thread asking this. The problem is that some plonker might think it's anti-semitic or something gay like that...
mArtiAn:
Actually i've got a theory about the immaturity thing which is that it's a reaction to being born female in a country that predominantly wants boys. A girl born in that situation has to work extra hard for daddy's love, and what does daddy love but his stupidly sweet little girl, he doesn't want a mature thinking woman, so what does she do, she milks that act for all it's worth, even beyond her own maturity, to the point that she creates her own state of arrested development, and all in order to maintain daddy's affection.
Beautifulsoup:
She works at a coffee shop I go to regularly. I saw her outside the coffee shop in the mall across from the mall in which the coffee shop is that she works.
You were rude and OTT.
Pig is a form of jealousy of overindulgence like if you get to sleep in every morning or go out and enjoy nice food every day you're a pig.
Does that make sense?
A lot of Chinese women pretend to be upset so you give them extra attention by comforting them. It did seem a little over the top calling her a fat female dog.
Chinese women are very immature. She shouldn't dish it out if she can't take it.
You don't really engage in name calling after primary school in my view..
A MAN does not engage in silly childish name calling, with women especially.
she just made a joke with you by calling you pig, obviviously, you did not get it.
actually, when I was at college,I know a few of my classmates call their bfs pig or little big, their bfs seem don't mind at all as it's just a nickname to them.

Those are people in established relationships.... so example doesn't count. I think this guy was still in the meeting stage.
Ah! Sticks and Stones. Maybe she was just using the expression jokingly, and you maybe responded with a little more assertive aggression and meaning. Two wrongs don't make a right. As we are not familiar with the full circumstance which brought about the tit for tat insults the really it left open for people to just make their own conclusion, however you'd have showed yourself to be a better person should you have not lowered yourself to the same level of insulting behaviour. This was a young lady, not a drunken lout. Just my personal view of course
I think it's sorta funny. I don't think I would use the same words, but I also couldn't guarantee I wouldn't. It's all about how you say it and not what you say. If you're looking way too serious then she may have taken it for your truthful thoughts. There's lots of leeway in saying mean things when it comes to the difference of being friendly to downright mean. Maybe she hit a nerve with you and you meant it in a more nasty way which she instantly detected. Our minds are very good at reading instant changes in body expression.
Try to play off the insults a little better. Or at least learn the Chinese ways of sublety when using them. Judging by you getting schooled by a innocent looking girl, you really need to start at basic level A. The most basic of all insults is to tell them "XXXX food is too ______" (sweet, salty, spicy) choose one. It means their food and cooking is crap, but it retains your innocence when saying it. After you master this form of hurting feelings, then progress on to more subltle and more creative ones!
It sounds like you are just looking for justification for being mean. I think you were just as immature as her.
