Q: " they looked at me like I'm an idiot"... and other ways of 'saving face'

That, and the blatant lies (out of ignorance "Which way to the train station"... get sent in opposite direction).

And the 'maybe' ("do you have a boyfriend?"... maybe.. although, I did have worse, when I got "what if I say yes, and what if I say no?").

And the blame game (a variant of the blatant lie).

Did I miss anything?

Narcissism, denial, passing the buck, lack of responsibility.
I'd say you got it covered

Lying: look above. Watch how polite they are getting on/off an elevator, bus or even doors. Look at how they talk to each other. Look at how they give their seats to the elderly / pregnant women/ small kids. Look at how they drive around crowds of people (I see at least 10 people nicked by cars/ buses a year, I'm not talking about ebikes)

Ignoring what goes on around you or accepting it because you think it's acceptable for their race is racist.

Marcos_Cisneros:

You certainly are crude enough that is for sure.  Any living thing can be crude and gutter like.  And you have been unwelcoming to me from the get go.  But just to let you know, I could care less. I am not here to benefit you and your opinions and your rudeness are irrelevant to me.  I was aware of the crude side of this board before I joined ... it has a reputation for being so but you can down arrow me on all my posts, you can lambast me with your foul comments, my good man, and my good bully, I am not going anywhere.

Regarding your actual topic. Let's look at some more.  Saying things like, 'I have an interview tomorrow morning' vs 'I have an interview tomorrow so I'll not be able to make our class in the afternoon'. Being complete is a sign of honesty. I don't need to go any further.

Another thing. Schools telling you, 'The class has been canceled ' or  'the student changed the time'. Instead of telling you they assigned the class to the FT teacher (which is completely understandable)

A: No, it's not allowed to work under RP at 2nd job! I'd say, Z visa
A:No, it's not allowed to work under RP at 2nd job! I'd say, Z visa/RP sponsor can have an objections to your part-time job. I did the same at my English teaching in China and elsewhere, butT ... I casually mentioned at my prime job, some kindergarten or another school asked me to work with them part-time. Then, my Q: "Is that permitted?" ...  Answer from RP sponsor was always "Yes, but you can't be late or miss the classes at our school ..." with my reply: "No, our work schedule has a priority, and I'll arrange classes at kindergarten only in my free time." When I cleared that, I was undertaking any extra teaching hours at other schools and private students in my free time.Sometimes, teachers at my prime job asked me if I'm willing to have some extra classes elsewhere.I accepted after the talk with School's principal. I suggest, you test the felling at your Z/RP sponsor and once you see they don't object, you can work at 2nd job. Keeping your 2nd job as a secret from your employer won't work, 'cause you're laowai and Chinese know exactly what you do in your free time. However, despite your employer's agreement for extra work, you are still in violation of Chinese Labour law, and even if your sponsor agrees to your extra work, you can still get in trouble, because it's clearly written (somewhere ... ) that under Z/WP, one can work only at the Z-sponsor and nowhere else. Penalties ... I'd say, there won't be any warnings and you'll be required to exit China in short Exit time.It never happened to me, so I can't really advice how is when manure hits the fan ...  -- icnif77
