Q: What is the closest you've ever come to getting seriously hurt here?

I mean with all the pushing and shoving, car drivers who run lights and don't use the turn signal how close have you come to becoming seriously hurt?

A lady ran into my bike we both fell off I got scratched banged me up a bit....other than that on the subway I got squished like a pimple ready to burst! I was basically sitting on someone's lap the entire ride while it was hot!

My troubles in China have all been drink related. Woken up three times (or is it four) with my wallet missing, and one of those was in hospital, besides which i'm a big-mouthed c**t, and God knows I keep getting in trouble for that. Been banned from my local three times. Might wander in there now in fact and see if I can't make it four. But as for the roads, you have to be kidding. I can see the problems coming a mile off. Just wish I had a more powerful bike to help me avoid them.

I was driving at 60km/h at night on my scooter, in shorts and flip flops and with no helmet, and didn't see the huge hole in the road in front of me. I totally had it coming, but still, it hurt like hell. I hit my head on the ground HARD, but was extremely lucky not get any after-effects. Some of the skin on my right arm and leg was ripped off, and it hurt like a bitch, and my right foot somehow got a nasty cut, which got infected a few days later because of the huge summer rain that came out of nowhere (I had to walk through giant puddles of filth...).

It took me almost a year  to grow the balls to ride that scooter again, and I've been scared of speed since (If I rode it I'd never go above 15km/h).

I still have a scar on my arm, leg and foot to remind me not to be this stupid ever again.

I was living in one of the older, very typical, 7 or 8 story appartment blocks with the built in balconies, no elevator etc. One of the appartments nearby in the block had a gas explosion and blew the crap out of the place and set fire to the one upstairs. Scared the bejesus out of me when it blew and unfortunately the person in the unit was critically injured. Not sure what their outcome was as I moved out soon after.

Last October National Day, I heard lots of noise and commotion so I went to see what was happening. A huge mob of people were destroying a local Japanese owned supermarket. I got hit in the back of the head by a piece of flying concrete. It knocked me to the ground and felt sore for a few days but I managed to recover.

A: No, it's not allowed to work under RP at 2nd job! I'd say, Z visa
A:No, it's not allowed to work under RP at 2nd job! I'd say, Z visa/RP sponsor can have an objections to your part-time job. I did the same at my English teaching in China and elsewhere, butT ... I casually mentioned at my prime job, some kindergarten or another school asked me to work with them part-time. Then, my Q: "Is that permitted?" ...  Answer from RP sponsor was always "Yes, but you can't be late or miss the classes at our school ..." with my reply: "No, our work schedule has a priority, and I'll arrange classes at kindergarten only in my free time." When I cleared that, I was undertaking any extra teaching hours at other schools and private students in my free time.Sometimes, teachers at my prime job asked me if I'm willing to have some extra classes elsewhere.I accepted after the talk with School's principal. I suggest, you test the felling at your Z/RP sponsor and once you see they don't object, you can work at 2nd job. Keeping your 2nd job as a secret from your employer won't work, 'cause you're laowai and Chinese know exactly what you do in your free time. However, despite your employer's agreement for extra work, you are still in violation of Chinese Labour law, and even if your sponsor agrees to your extra work, you can still get in trouble, because it's clearly written (somewhere ... ) that under Z/WP, one can work only at the Z-sponsor and nowhere else. Penalties ... I'd say, there won't be any warnings and you'll be required to exit China in short Exit time.It never happened to me, so I can't really advice how is when manure hits the fan ...  -- icnif77
