I'm a huge fan of Cantonese food myself- can never get enough of dim-sum! What about others? Does anyone know of any "unknown delicacies" from certain areas that aren't too well known? I'm currently in Hangzhou and recently had Baijiu-shrimp. You know the normal process where they drown a poor shrimp in a river of Baijiu until dies of drunkeness unless it is consumed by a by a nearby onlooker. I'll stick with Cantonese after that experience I think .
I had a whole chicken with a glazed skin, I don't know what it was. I mentioned several times at dinner that I could eat the entire chicken, but no one ordered more. I got the bill. I went out for dinner once and thought I'd try to order it, but ordered Peking duck. It looked the same and I was tired of just getting bones with no meat. When it came, it was a beautiful golden brown looking breast, I picked up the first piece and almost fell out of my chair laughing. It is just the skin, no meat. Ream me another one.
Chongqing Hot Pot and Sichuan food.
I don't like Cantonese food very much. (I live in Guangdong)
Lanzhou food stills my favorite. You may try Hakka cuisine, they use plenty of vegetables.
Mine would still have to be spicy Hunan food. Everytime I travel out of the region, I can't wait to get back and eat some pork and hot green peppers! And, it's a good excuse to have a couple of cold bottles of Harbin!
Good answers! I must say spicy food is a bit too much for me, I'm more into light stuff (hence the Cantonese fetish.) I'm interested to know more about Hakka food though...
I like all of the both and to add something special i like Mongolian BBQ.........a sheep leg Mongolian style is the best with some beers and a friend to share the meal with.....Now that's the Chinese dream.
Maybe the Chinese would like some suggestions from our famous "Road Kill Cafe" menu.
It's very similar to some Chinese food and I'm sure these western treats would go over well in China.
