The better question is why would they want qq to become compatible with Yahoo and MSN...

They already have everyone using qq, why would they want to risk some loss by letting some switch to another messenger but still keep their contacts. Plus it would me much hard to control MSN and Yahoo compared to the ease of controlling QQ. I just say we are lucky that the others are not blocked by the Great Firewall.

en. I don't see the reason to be compatible. QQ is a Chinese messenger. Every Chinese uses QQ. It is already the standard. Perhaps the question should be: When will MSN and Yahoo become compatible with QQ?

You guys are ignorant. 'Every' is a word that means all without exception. Not all Chinese people use QQ and some use more than one account. QQ has 812.3 million registered users of which they count me 3 times and other many QQ addresses for businesses (My local guitar shop has 3 apart from the ones the people that work there have), there are a lot more people in China than that and far less users than that. Lots of people also use alternatives like the ones mentioned and gmail. I know this for a fact.

The reason for making QQ international would be to gain users not lose them.

I will amend my comment. Every Chinese (with few exceptions) who uses a messenger service uses QQ. Some use more than one service, but most every uses QQ. QQ is the largest messenger in the world. Will it ever be compatible with the other services? I don't know, but I bet Tencent (or China) could care less about making QQ compatible with MSN and Yahoo.

Think about it they have lots to gain. They open the market for the international community for one. Also they have little to worry about domestically with about half of China already using QQ. They are solid here and other messengers wont take that away or they would have already.

...and i ask again, what do they gain? international users looking at their Chinese ads (which they cant understand)? what revenues will they gain? u think all that extra traffic on their network is free? opening up will not mean many more qq subscribers, which is how money is made. Every qq page is in Chinese, which limits its appeal to international users. why do u think AOL fought so hard to keep its network closed?
QQ is designed for the Chinese market and they should stick to what they do best.
