Q: Where can I buy syringes in Shenyang?

I take testosterone cyp injections every two weeks (medically necesary).  My problem is that while I brought plenty of medicine, I did not bring enough syringes. I cannot find out where to buy them here.  Does anyone have any idea?  I went to the local pharmacy and showed them what I need, but they just shook their heads.

Try a pharmacy next to a hospital. When a friend was hospitalized, the nurse suggested, not sure why, that the family bought things like IV lines themselves to get imported quality (rather than the default stuff the hospital uses) Next to at least two hospitals here in town, there are shops where you can buy anything from bandaid to hospital beds.

If not, taobao, not sure I'd trust this kind of product from taobao.

Thank you.  The pharmacy closest to me is outside of the downtown area, and not near any hospitals.  I'll do as you suggested and find one near a hospital.

If that fails, maybe pop into the hospital and ask a doctor or a nurse.

You'll find English speaking MDs at any Hospital, so I'd go and ask MDs for guidance. Some pharmacists speak English, too.

You could also get syringes mailed from your home.

Dear Gary,

I have personally used each of these two hospitals below.  They do have a large dispensary and a very large patient outclinic.  They are the only two hospitals in Shenyang officially approved to treat foreigners.  I have provided you with the names and telephone numbers of English-speaking doctors.

Contrary to what others have written, I would never, ever, ever buy a syringe from a chemist in this country.  I would purchase one directly from a hospital dispensary and have the dispensary open an unsealed box in front of me.  They are usually quite obliging.

GaryWJr:

Thank you very much.  Is this also where a foreigner would go for things like a routine checkup or volunteer surgery (I am considering getting an implant to eliminate the need for injections)?

A:No, it's not allowed to work under RP at 2nd job! I'd say, Z visa/RP sponsor can have an objections to your part-time job. I did the same at my English teaching in China and elsewhere, butT ... I casually mentioned at my prime job, some kindergarten or another school asked me to work with them part-time. Then, my Q: "Is that permitted?" ...  Answer from RP sponsor was always "Yes, but you can't be late or miss the classes at our school ..." with my reply: "No, our work schedule has a priority, and I'll arrange classes at kindergarten only in my free time." When I cleared that, I was undertaking any extra teaching hours at other schools and private students in my free time.Sometimes, teachers at my prime job asked me if I'm willing to have some extra classes elsewhere.I accepted after the talk with School's principal. I suggest, you test the felling at your Z/RP sponsor and once you see they don't object, you can work at 2nd job. Keeping your 2nd job as a secret from your employer won't work, 'cause you're laowai and Chinese know exactly what you do in your free time. However, despite your employer's agreement for extra work, you are still in violation of Chinese Labour law, and even if your sponsor agrees to your extra work, you can still get in trouble, because it's clearly written (somewhere ... ) that under Z/WP, one can work only at the Z-sponsor and nowhere else. Penalties ... I'd say, there won't be any warnings and you'll be required to exit China in short Exit time.It never happened to me, so I can't really advice how is when manure hits the fan ...  -- icnif77
