The question about precious things got me thinking. My most precious thing here is somewhere quiet. I grew up in a very quiet area and the constant noise here slowly builds stress up in me. After sometime I really get annoyed with it all. I tried going to the park to escape the noise but there are these stupid speakers everywhere that play the radio or old people singing loudly. I eventually found this weird dirt path in the middle of the biggest park in the city. I followed it for about 5 minutes and then just stopped. It was quiet. No screaming, spitting, shouting, singing, music, horns or any other noise but the wind. I couldn't even hear the noise of construction. It took me 4 years to find a place like that. It takes me about an hour to travel there from my home too. What do you guys do to escape the constant noise here?
You pose a very good question LH. My last job had plenty of places to go to get "peace and quiet". I miss it it dearly. Unfortuantely at my new location Im on the ground floor, by the elevator, AND the playground outside. I think you can imagine how much noise I have to put up with now. To be honest, Im at my wits end. I dont expect to be here much longer as there is a culmination of criteria that is forcing me to either leave or jump from the rooftop. Im in the camp of the former.

Yeah, tell me about it. I moved to the outskirts of the city but still it is so noisy. Dogs barking, they started building more apartments across from our area, fireworks, fireworks and sometimes fireworks.
I usually go to the seaside-in the winter. There's a different sort of quiet, the waves lapping upon the shore. Notice I said winter. Summer is a disaster. There is nowhere to escape in the summer. Sometimes, I'd rather listen to the hum of the air conditioner inside my apartment than venture outside amongst the cacophony.
That's why I choose to live where I do... it's a 30-45 min bus trip to get to the city, but I'd rather be out here in the sticks where it's much quieter, than closer to the city where it's much noisier.
There is the occasional issue with renovations, dogs barking, oldies yelling out, kids screaming, doors banging... all that typical crap. But sometimes it can be dead quiet!
Besides which, I've got the hills and the trees about a 10 min walk away.... The path isn't 'easy', but still has ppl on it (though not all the time). So, sometimes there's aresholes telling the world they exist... however, much of the time, it's pretty quiet there
the golf course peaceful nice surroundings

But then i'd have to play golf. That could possibly be worse.
