Q: Why can't I buy stick deodorant here?

Do Chinese people wear deodorant? On that note, other hygiene issues that bug me like...girls not shaving their armpits, acne, wearing the same clothes everyday, letting your kids do their thing on planes. I'm trying to be sensitive, but what's going on?

As Sinobear mentioned, TaoBao has deodorant. In Shanghai, you could also go to Watson, CarreFour, and perhaps even Metro. At Jinqiao in Shanghai there is a 'Times Grocery' store which carries an abundance of imported goods, mostly from the U.S.

Good luck!

Ya, good deodorant is hard to find, not a big thing here.Taobao it, or have your family send some in a care package.

About the other stuff, the clothes things is just sort of practical when you don't sweat much. Like really, those jeans are sooo dirty after one use? you know you still grab them outta the pile in a pinch. Same shirts 2 days in the Summer though, ya that's just lazy and kinda nasty.

And ya most Chinese girls just don't shave. Armpits, legs, ... ya know. But is that really bad hygiene?

As one Chinese friend put it, with an ever-so-slight look of disgust, "Why would you want you woman to look like a little girl? That's kind of weird man." I'd never though if it that way.

Acne, well, pollution, heavy smoking, and spicy, oily food. What r u gonna do?

Spray on is available. Use that. And consider yourself lucky you have that.

When you are old enough to shave your troubles will begin. Where to buy a decent blade?

rolling sticks are probably strange in china. and everything that touches the body like that is a "dirty old foreign" laowai invention.

Because deodorant can be used for a lot of bad things, it's formula is useful in more ways than one. Thats why you don't see it here.

They sell it in most of the supermarkets near me. Maybe it depends where you live in China. But in Tianjin it is easy enough to find.

When I first came to China (in June, summer), i was shopping for toiletries and was looking for the deoderant.....looked one end and out there other. Shampoo, toothpaste, soap, ok, no, where the f... is the deoderant? Well, there was no deoderant. So i went without, and basically have done fine without it.

Last year in July, i and my wife went to Africa to the country of Zambia, and before i left bought like 10 roll on deoderants. I remember a Zambian ask me why, and i told them that deoderant is very difficult to find in China. Over a year later, i still have most of it, and estimate it will last another year or so.

I am going to return to the USA next week for a month. Will bring deoderant back, plus other stuff one cannot get in China. Plus to be able to eat real food!
