Your X1 visa is a student visa valid for 3 months, single entry. You need to be in China before it expires. You need to register for the permit within 30 days of entry at the PSB. Your school should be telling you this, no? What kind of school doesn't tell it's students all the visa issues anyway?

sirdr:

Thanks. I was suppose to register for summer but I got a late visa, so I replied for spring just wanna know if I enter by 30th I can get a resident permit within 15 days. Without issue cos my school registration will be 17th which is like 2days after the expire date of my visa.

Enter China before your visa expires. Simples.  Don't worry about your residence permit. Your school will sort that out for you.

Turn up at the border with an expired visa and they won't let you in. Same as any other country.

sirdr:

Thanks hope 30th is not too late?
