After my last employer canceled my visa, there was some time needed to arrange the new visa. During that time, I got two temporary stay visas.

Best advice IMO you could get at Foreign Expert Bureau.

This is an old (pre-2017) name of Chinese org., which approved Working permit, so I'd say find out which is that org. and ask them for an advice.

Your employer knows the name and address of that org. because they had to apply for your Working permit there.

I'd say, you can stay in China until your Residence permit expiration, but you aren't entitled to undertake any work for pay after your Working permit expires.

If and when you'll get new job with another employer, you'll also get new Working permit with extension of Residence permit.

I hope, that helps!

Under normal circumstances, the two should expire at the same time.

icnif77:

It was always that way before the Labor law changes in 2017, i.e. Residence permit expired the same day or few days later as the Working permit did.

Then, RP holder was entitled for 30-days RP extension as preparation for exit.

It depends on the purpose you would like to stay in China. After you have been released from the current employer by obtaining a work permit cancellation receipt and release letter from the employer you can apply for a stay permit which if granted would give you 30 days from the date of application. If you want to apply for another one after that you could try but would be under closer scrutiny and need to provide more proofs. If you are married to a Chinese you could always switch to a family reunion / dependent residence permit (working is not permitted). However, the procedures to change employment is for the current employer to cancel the work permit and release you and for the new employer to apply for a new work permit and residence permit for you. I can share relating articles with information if requested.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
