Yes, there are many different websites offering Chinese Laws and Regulations, Englsih versions.

ExPats in China are now subject to two different types of taxes, one is on income, and another is like the Social Security as in the USA.

On income, you have still 4 years without worries, but if interested you check out the following web page

I've made pizza at home and here are the best tips I can give you:

1.)  Use imported flour if you can find it.  The Chinese brands are not the best quality flour and they often have other things added (like baking soda/powder) specifically for steaming.

2.)  Most ovens I have seen here don't have the ability to go up to the proper temperatures that should...

    Ryan:

The fine is limited to a maximum amount of 5,000 Rmb, but you have a visa expired for 6 months now, and that is just not a few days. It would be hard to plead ignorance of expiration date, and any other pausable excuses.

In my opinion, it is better to face the facts and volunteer yourself in that be found. The worst case scenario will be to be deported, and maybe face an up...

Pre-natal vitamins: Anything by a company called Ferguson (They specialize in pre-natal vitamins/supplements) and I can personally say they are quality stuff.

Hospital, if you can afford it, a private room is by far the best.  The hospital my wife gave birth at was quite good (in Guangzhou).  If the woman was giving natural birth (they will always try to push for c-sections),...

Pregnancy in China is totally different to what we are accustom in Western countries.  At least, in my experience.
To answer so me of your questions, for example doctors first.  I have seen ladies who go the whole nine months without even seeing a doctor once,  others may see the doctor once or twice, and their explanation was that they felt OK, no need to see doctor....

For mainland south east Asia, which country is cheapest probably depends on how long you're planning to stay there. The reason for this is that Thailand and Malaysia both have major regional flight hubs (Bankgok and Kuala Lumpur respectively) and would probably be much cheaper to fly to from most Chinese cities. Also, travellers from western countries get visa free entry.

    On the...

Isnt that a coincidence... Mattaya whilst not only giving a good answer, also gave the exact answer that all my Chinese and Taiwanese colleagues gave when I wanted to buy a car....

I have recently bought one and gone through the exact same experience and wonderment. In the UK I have never bought a new car, its just plain silly, they will loose 1/3 of the value (if not more) as soon as...

In my view, the topic of sex is a very cultural thing and reflects the values, social beliefs and behaviours of a society. Considering China has only recently opened their doors to the rest of the world, the attitude towards sex tends to be congruous to a political, social and media controlled environment.

For example, the western world promotes the...

Let me tell you first that in order o get a new visa placed in your existing passport, the passport CAN NOT expire for at least 6 months.  It is clearly written in the regulations for new Chinese visas.

I had the same problem in Guangzhou in 2009 when my daughter's passport expired.  After researchng, found out that to just renew the passport, the Consulate had a 45 days...

The "5000 years" claim stems from what some people consider the birth of Chinese civilization, which would be from the time of the Yellow Emperor Huangdi, which is thought to be about 3000BC.  Of course, this information is from oral traditions that were not even written down until a few thousand years after that, and there has not been ANY evidence found to support that this is...

There seem to be 3 main reasons for down votes:

1.)  Somebody dsagrees with your post.  For example, if you were to say "Durian topped with chou doufu is the best meal ever and has the greatest smell in the world!",  you will probably get down votes because many people won't agree.

2.)  Someone posts something stupid.  Example:  Q....

I have four year old twins (See my avatar), they currently can communicate in Mandarin, English and Cantonese (Cantonese being their weakest language).

The way it is handled in my home is that I communicate with them in English, my wife in Mandarin and the mother-in-law & maid talk to them in Cantonese.

One of the important things to do is make sure that they have lots...

Opening a bank account in Hong Kong does not require a local address.  I have a couple set up there for different purposes.  One of the main things you want to think about when you do set up an account is what type of currency will be going in it.

HSBC and many other banks have multi-currency accounts that make putting money in them very easy.

    However, there are a...

A bit of a mystery. It's generally assumed that it formed gradually around what is today's Henan province, but the problem is that the oldest surviving examples of Chinese writing, the turtle shells (which date back no farther than 1500 BC), show an already well-developed system with thousands of characters. We have no examples of it in its nascent form, as we do with Mayan and...

It is not only the food and beverage licenses the whole process is more complicated and one depends on the previous, must follow an established order.

You must decide first if you want a Chinese partner to have a domestic company, or a Whole Own Foreign Company.  Set that one up, then must get a legal name for business

Nope, if for some reason you do not wish to do so, you do not have to.

For your information only, I did register with mine about 2 years ago, and all they have done is send me an email warning me about health concerns in drinking bottle water from Chinese sources due to some contaminated brands.  Other than that one time, nothing else has happened.  Oh, sorry, I also got...

I always had very bad luck with partners in a business, so anything I may do will be with me as sole owner.  There is always the complain that one partner does not pulls his weight in sharing duties, responsibilities and work load.  Then, also the fact that 90 % of the time, the one working less wants the largest share of profits.  And some are so shortsighted than do not...

    Connections.

While China Telecom & China Mobile are for all intents and purposes government owned, the officers behind China Telecom are higher ranked and committies that are more advantageous to Apple's other goals.

China Mobile would make more sense from a consumer point, but China Telecom is still the leader from a business point.

What I mean is that Apple could...
