Sign up with Google Sign up with FacebookQ: Any good quiet getaways near Beijing?
I've been working in Beijing for a good while now and have sneakily used my holiday time so I can take 4 days off before the start of the infamously hectic Spring Festival rush. I'm looking to escape the city and find a quiet, relaxing place not too far from Beijing (say 3/4 hours by bus or train.) Does anyone have any suggestions or relevant experiences that could help me?
Thanks!

3 - 4 days before the holiday is exactly the start of the rush.
Good luck!
Tianjin is like 30 min by train. It's not as noisy as Beijing, but a bit of a "dead" city. Not much to do there.
Qingdao's about four hours away by train and is a nice city to spend some time in. Or, if Qingdao is a bit to busy for you, you might want to try Yantai - but it is a bit further away.
Yantai huh? What's worth seeing there? Regarding Qingdao/Tianjin... I was thinking a smaller (by Chinese standards) place with some nice natural scenery....any other ideas?

Yantai is close to Penglai, which is a nice place to visit for a day, also I found the city to be a nice place, not too busy and quite a nice walk along the seafront. Weihai is close by and I've been told that's not a bad place to spend a day or two.
The word "quiet" and "Chinese place" in the same sentence?
Mmmmm
Challenging one, that!
My apartment is pretty quiet..... at nighttime....when the neighbours aren't redecorating.... haha only kidding. Is there seriously not a lot to do around Beijing at this time of year ? I mean I've done the Great Wall and all that... My friend mentioned a place called Datong if anyone's heard of that?
Thailand... 3-4 hours by airplane.... much quieter!
