Too many mixed reviews on the international sites, i figure people living in China might have more objective views (we're used to the bad service, food etc so our expectations wouldn't be as high).

Yes I've skiied in China and to put it mildly, it was a major disappointment. The resort I went to outside Beijing was a far cry from "international standard" and the slopes were way too crowded and not long enough. You had to stand in line for at least 20 minutes each time to get the life up the hill and then it took less than 30 seconds to get back down. Rather than enjoying those few seconds, I was worried that I'd crash into someone or that someone would crash into me at any moment. Also, they seem to lack a sense of "ski cabin" culture here. One of my favourite parts of skiing, is hanging in the ski cabin afterwards over hot drinks with friends. This idea doesn't seem to exist here so bring your own thermos flask of hot water and wave goodbye to any dreams of experiencing a fun, ski trip like in the West.
Forget anything around Beijing. If you want any kind of skiing approaching world levels, then you will have to try Heilongjiang.
There are no cozy little cabins for apres-ski -- that just doesn't exist. Nonetheless Yabuli, about 2.5 hours by car outside of Harbin, is probably the best that there is in China. It was home to the skiing competition of the Asian Games and other international matches.
I was at Moershan (excuse the spelling) last year and while the hills were ok, maybe a little too fast for beginners, the overall look was what you would expect. Lollitta is correct too...the "Ski Cabin" aspect of the location I went to was non existent. Having said that, half way down the slope there is a small restaurant that serves cold beer. Yes, Cold beer half way down the slopes. On the second day we ended up there and took the chair lift down. It's not cheap either. At the bottom of the hill was what looked like a huge waiting room with a few tables. Clean though.
