Q: Anybody have any nannying experience?

I have an opportunity to au pair basically in Guangzhou. Basically, I'll be making a fair amount of money taking care of a rich family's kids.

Do you think I should do it?

Julie Andrews had a bit of nannying experience.

How's your skills with a guitar? Can you sing "Doe, Ray, Me"? Or "A few of my favorite things"?

If you can do these things, you should be alright. Go for it!

Be careful. You will be in the private space of a couple of Mainlanders who may have all kinds of delusional expectations of you.

Non-adherence and surprises will always be of the negative variety. It depends on the people and their whim. You have no recourse. One wrong look and your days are numbered. It isn't a secure job.

I applied for a job as hotel employee for a chinese hotel, which was basically the same situation in terms of job stability. You are needed until they decide on a whim you are not needed.
I didn't get hired, because 5 other foreigners spoke better Chinese than me. It was disappointing, but I later heard those 5 guys were out on their asses after just 2 weeks. The hotel is next to a university, and boss-man probably got complaints about all the attention the guys got from college girls, or vice versa. End of job.

Being a teacher sucks donkey balls, but you are too vital to get fired on a whim. You have to really mess things up before they willingly let go of you.

A:Good question!  I'd say, if you study at Uni in China beside working full-time as an E.T. with Residence permit, you don't interfere with your full-time employment. It's your free time and you can do anything you want, with respect to the Chinese laws and customs. Have a look at terms of Z visa/Residence permit and ... ".. you cannot work (and earn monies!) with another employer ..."That's all it is! Your RP sponsor title is written on the RP stamp in your passport, I think. It's in Mandarin, so I've heard about that from someone ...At I.D.-ing by cops, they know where you work and than more details about you are just a phone call away ... and it happened in person ... LOL ... during the day-time stroll through Wulumuqi, Xinjiang, 2012/13 semester. Now under RP, you're free to surf Internet, jog, ... and study, too. I suggest, you look and ask at the Uni, you plan to study in the future. Have a detailed look at requirements for studying and attending chosen Uni.Good luck! -- icnif77
