Does any of you have work experience in HK. How was/is it? Any suggestion of what an average salary is? Yeah yeah, field matters, no s*t, of course it matters.
But if you worked there what is average salary for example for teaching position (or position you held) and costs.
How did you get the job. There was an article posted about HK, but hearing from actual experience would be nice too.

Are you talking about education? I work for a HK firm, sometimes in HK, sometimes in Foshan, Guangdong. Expect real curriculum (probably Longman used in HK public education), actual education (not foreign monkey), probably low teaching hours but the standards are high.
In terms of salary the FT (I am not) in both places earn between 25 and 30000 per month, they all signed with the HK office, excluding living allowance and other benefits. You can rent a nice flat in the New Territories for maybe 10000 per month, Kowloon double the price, HK Island triple it.
I've been in Shenzhen for almost 10 years, let me tell you what every English teacher has told me after trying to work in Hong Kong:
"Hey, can you help me get a job in shenzhen again? I can't save anything here in HK."
Only 3% of teachers that go there make or save any of their earnings.
It is not worth moving to Hong Kong to teach English as a foreign teacher. Even though the salary might be higher, the cost of living quadruples. You will not save as much money and will live a hard frugal life.
Yeah, I know living expenses are very high, but I can be very stingy.
I don't go out to clubs, I don't pay on dates and if a girl wants gifts, I simply find a new one.
I like to eat good food, but I guess with cheap rent I can buy quality one in upper market stores.

Well with that way of treating women you'll be playing with yourself a lot in HK!
Johoho:
Well, not really. I look good, have confidence and have no social anxiety.
The way I see it, they should be happy for me to talk with them.
Buying gifts is for those who have no other attributes ;)

Don't listen to this BS, the average salary in HK is 18000HKD per month, and people earning that live well. FT earn more than that and teach very few hours.
Sure those expats hanging in bars every nights, who want to live in Soho and who buy their groceries at premium price at City'super are broke by the 20th of the month but anyone living like that deserve to be broke.
I spend around 2 weeks per month in HK, my living expenses (groceries, personal hygiene, transportation, ...) are never more than 3000HKD (so count 6000HKD for a month) and yes I eat in nice restaurants and buy imported groceries (that are cheaper than in Mainland China BTW). Places like OK Supermarket where you can find anything at unfair price for the concurrence.
Anyone telling you that everything is 4 times more expensive in HK doesn't know a thing about this city. The only overly expensive thing is housing, and yet the NT are cheaper than first tier cities on the Mainland.

You mean treating women like equals. So you're saying HK women won't go out with a guy unless he's hemorrhaging cash?
75000HKD per month, then you can live in Hong Kong as you can for 20000RMB per month in Zhuhai. At least by my calculations.
Johoho:
75k for teaching? Huh, that's 60k RMB, not bad at all.
Once I talked to a teacher from the UK who work now in Beijing. He taught in HK for like 10 years or so and claimed he got around 70-80k HKD + full furnirshed 3 bedroom apartment. Nice package for teaching.
Question is, if non-native can get teaching position in HK, probably not. But there are other jobs :)
Scandinavian:
I don't teach, so 75K would be different industry. But I did see an add for a doorman at a 5 star hotel, salary was 20000HKD, which is kind of OK for standing and smiling at people, possibly help with a suitcase etc.
