The more time I spend here, the more I wish I was in China already. I am so ready to completely shock my entire consciousness of what I thought I knew about the world, and be completely blindsided by things I never knew was acceptable behavior. I longed to be elbowed out of the way by little old Chinese ladies; to use squat toilets; to be stared and pointed at; to take tai chi classes from a tai chi master; to be jumped in queue; to get lost wandering an ancient street while evading strange looking people trying to take advantage of me; and to eat steamed rice and soy sauce all day long with chop sticks until I burst! Not looking forward to dodging spit flying everywhere, but alas everything else, I am totally game on for!!!! 47 more days until the adventure begins...ahhh.
Anyone else totally itching to go, or get back, to China?!?!?!?
P.S. I totally just got Rosetta Stone: Manderin and have been going through the course all morning! Ni' hao! Shui! Guozhi! hahahahaha. I'm sure I sound really annoying to some of you right now...but I am just too excited!
give it a week. when everything you just said you were longing for happens 24/7, you'll be singing to a different tune my friend. where are you heading to anyway?
Had the same feeling in my early days, few years ago. I was in my early 30s, strong, curious and..... single.
Now, after 9 years, i'm holding the vomit every day I wake up in the morning to realize it's another day in China.
Every day, lol. I miss my family in China (in-laws), the traveling, the sight-seeing, the food, etc... ah, China... how I miss thee, and hate thee at the same time!
It's a tumultuous love affair, I'm afraid.
ironman510:
It was stated in an Article that a wumao banned you from coming back to China, how will you over come this?
Hulk:
I was never banned from China. Not sure what you're on about, as I've always respected the laws of China. I just act like a complete moron on the internet.
WanderingTeacher:
Hulk, we are planning a gathering for next year...let's get some dates when you might be available to come back..I am so looking forward to meeting you all. CHINA!!! 47 more days...Jesus Christ let this time fly! I am sooo sick of Los Angeles...
Hulk:
Not sure if I can make it. Kinda homeless at the moment, lol. I don't think our situation will improve to the point where we can be buying tickets within a year, at least not until I graduate.
Paulberger:
@wanderingteacher i came to china three years ago from Los Angeles. its a huge adjustment... what part of LA you coming from?
I'm here now and itching for a Chinese permanent green card.. Yeah I know that feeling, so come on back..
Oh you poor pathetic fool . They are going to eat you alive. you know how you are counting down till you arrive on planet China ? well in about 10 days after you achive that goal you will be counting down the days till you can escape all the while huddled in the corner of your room gently rocking with your hands over your eyes
Yeah, if you're excited that's great, but I'd keep it to myself and off internet boards.
Who wants to start taking bets on how long (or short) it takes the Chinese to break his spirit?
WanderingTeacher:
I am totally down for a bet..my spirit is strong and unwavering ;) First round of drinks at our first gathering is already on me. I bet the next two rounds following that my spirit will not break, for at least 4 after I arrive..which will be the end of June 2014
Man, personally, I'm glad you're so excited. There is a lot in China to be excited about. And I hope your spirit doesn't get broken. Which, from reading your posts, I don't think it will be. I was just reading another thread and I agree with other users that this forum is just a place to rant but actually most of us do love being here and it is a great place to live. I like your attitude towards the 'negative' aspects of China that you're so ready to get out of your comfort zone that you want to come here and experience that side of China. I feel your excitement and it has made me appreciate China a little more. Thanks!
Paulberger:
agreed. i love to rant and complain here, but i actually do love (most the time) living here. its all about finding the few good aspects... and ignoring all the horrible, agonizing, excruciating, antagonizing aspects of the craziness we call china...
