Q: Aparments stinky toilets

Do you ever walk into your toilet feeling like throwing up because of the super stinky smell in it that comes from the pipes or whatever it is? No matter how much I clean it and which products with fragrances I use, the stinky smell doesn't go away. I previously lived in another apartment and the same problem happened. What's wrong? Does the same happen in your apartment?

It's bad plumbing, cover the drains in the floor, remove the covers when you shower. There is an old thread somewhere on the topic. I am lucky to not have that problem.

It's a thing worth checking when apartment hunting.

In many of the older apartment buildlngs in China, toilets do not have a water trap built into their discharge line.  Thus, "odors" from whatever travels in those lines can freely flow back into bathrooms.  The higher the floor, the stronger the smell. You will need a lot of Clorox, puls lots of water,to get rid of some of it.  Best solution is to find a new apartment with water traps on dischrge lines

Oh, also you may get the same smell from wash basins for the same reason, since they all discharge using same common pipe.

Wow ! First time I got a rational, consistent explanation to this all too common problem ^^

That's really bad news. I live on the last floor and signed a one year contract. Thanks for the advice.

Stinky smell is not only in the old buildings. I live in year old, 8-story building, in the apartment on the bottom floor.

Once, I figured out why pissy smell in the apartment (when I'm not in), I wrapped drainage covers in the plastic bags, and put covers back over the drainage. There's no smell anymore.

Always when I am taking shower, or using washer, I must take off both tops of the drainage. Bad smell comes out of your Western toilet bowl, too. (just when you're using it!). If somebody above me flushes the toilet, all neighbours stink comes out through my Western bowl. I can hear (and feel), when neighbours above me flushing the can. You can just imagine my next move…...

A:Good question!  I'd say, if you study at Uni in China beside working full-time as an E.T. with Residence permit, you don't interfere with your full-time employment. It's your free time and you can do anything you want, with respect to the Chinese laws and customs. Have a look at terms of Z visa/Residence permit and ... ".. you cannot work (and earn monies!) with another employer ..."That's all it is! Your RP sponsor title is written on the RP stamp in your passport, I think. It's in Mandarin, so I've heard about that from someone ...At I.D.-ing by cops, they know where you work and than more details about you are just a phone call away ... and it happened in person ... LOL ... during the day-time stroll through Wulumuqi, Xinjiang, 2012/13 semester. Now under RP, you're free to surf Internet, jog, ... and study, too. I suggest, you look and ask at the Uni, you plan to study in the future. Have a detailed look at requirements for studying and attending chosen Uni.Good luck! -- icnif77
