Seeing people talk here, do u really think u r better than China ??? U think in few months you can learn 6000 yrs of China history? u think u better than that ???
If any one of you are better than Chinese..... go and leave this bad place wit all the bad people... you better and your country better?? shit man..... wake up you only like China the 1st 2 months you were here.. now you ungrateful for the job you got that you couldn't get in your country. You make me sick.. all of you complaining.. this is why Chinese so anti about westerners.... f__k wake up.... you were lost and ran to China for a job, got comfortable and now complain.. never happy.
The difference between USA and China is... China has roots, and strong ones..... go good you have a big tree with shit roots ....
Yeah~ u get it.
They do think they r better, and like to make jokes about how poor a Chinese's English is when they have no idea about Chinese at all.
Chinese people r just too nice to some of them.
I want to be the mean one, and it's just hard for them to believe any Chinese can have any opinions and challenge their authority as westerner.
Patience is virtue, wenna. You r very nice patient you dont need be like them, u r better! Its crazy what westerner can be with lack of good education they've get told crazy things!
Some expats certainly take advantage of the situation here in China. They get good pay compared to locals with equivalent jobs, suitors throw themselves at their feet, less rules, etc...
BUT
to generalize the way you're doing, godedenfais, is both ignorant and insulting. By calling us out for being elitist, you're doing the same mistake you often accuse us of by generalizing and stereotyping. I'd say you're a mean little man with a lot of pent up anger. What's the matter, did a white guy steal your girlfriend?
Also, I know Chinese are proud of their history, but do you really need to bring it up in every argument? Get over yourself...
You said we have lot history, this why there is always something to say bout it because we learn about it and it gives good example for anything
so you see some westerner post something makes you an expert in the west? so let me see. if a westerner makes generalizations about china his an elitist, but you can do it because you are chinese?
and by the way. Chinese love to fell Superior to everybody. hence the constant talking about 6000 years of history.
we foreigners might not know china's history , but you as chinese ,do you kknow ??
do you know how brutally your goverment murdered students ?
ask them history question about any other part of the world and they just stare at you. only Chinese history is worth learning you know.
Yes, we totally feel superior. Brag all you want about 6,000 years, even though your history as China is HALF that, we have long history as well. I see Chinese people thinking US culture is only a hundred years old... no it's not, those people didn't just appear there. Look at Europe, its history goes back thousands of years too. Know the differnce? We evolved, China did not. You history and culture doesn't offer anything.
That's why you've never been respected. Becuse you put on an actlike you think you're superior, but have nothing to show us and say why.

This is one of the dumbest questions ever. But I'm bored, so I'll play. And after reading Fritze's post, well I just have to be an ass...
First off, the main reasons 99.9% of foreigners are here is to make money and the next-to-slave labor wages you can pay to manufacture stuff. Did you know that most major companies actually budget money into their business plans as money they will lose by being ripped off by the ever ethical Chinese companies? Even with that money set aside, it's still so cheap to pay wages here that the loss is worthwhile. I know it's hard to believe, but KFC is not here because it loves and respects Chinese culture. It's a... BUSINESS that amazingly wants to make money.
I am in China for the same reason. To make money. It just so happens that there are also a lot of like minded people doing the same thing and there are many opportunities for making deals because everyone else is doing the same thing. In cities like New York, a lot of things are already established, so there aren't as many new chances.
I have been in China for a long time (8+ years now) and I have learned my lessons well. I DON'T do business with Chinese companies AT ALL anymore and if you look carefully, this is a growing trend. Why? Is it because foreigners "feel superior"? No. It's because you can only be lied to, cheated, robbed, and scammed so many times before you quit playing the game. In most countries this is an illegal offense an considered to just be downright SCUMBAG behavior. In China, it's called "being clever". And the gov't ALWAYS sides with the Chinese company. So a lot of people have LEGITIMATE reasons to complain and after while just saying "it's a different culture" and "you don't understand China" are revealed to be the weak, ignorant, dumbass comments that you see from idiots in online forums. Also amazingly, in my time here, I now have business obligations, contracts, and a whole slew of other things, so I can't just "go and leave this bad place wit all the bad people". It's called "business ethics" and even though I am in China, I still have them.
It doesn't matter if I "like" China or not. I like "money". I can make that here, ergo, I am here. If I can make a ton of money in Antarctica, well, that's where I'll be going next.
Finally, to the original poster:
Sorry man, China and the Chinese people have the biggest superiority complex of all time. It's even noticeable in daily speech and life - ie there are only 2 places in the world "China" and "Not China". Almost every TV show or movie is about the glorious past of China when China was "the center of the universe" and had "the mandate of heaven". Most of the internet talk is about how great it will be when China gets there again and "assumes it's rightful place" as master of the world when everyone will bow before the powerful China.
China DOESN'T have 6000 years of history, it has like 100 repeated over and over again 600 times. The only things that change are new technologies from other countries. I mean come on, this country still has a peasant class and serfs... But now the serfs have cell phones so life is modern and glorious.
Anyway, do I personally feel superior to Chinese people? No. I do however think the SOCIETY I come from and others like it are superior in a lot of ways.
jana33:
i don't feel superior, in general. but sometimes i just cannot help myself feeling rather baffled by some things Chinese people do. for example, i saw a father holding his baby who was pooping in the communal trash bin. or a child peeing right next to the table of an outside restaurant. i see Chinese people picking their nose in public all the time. when it comes to hygiene, yes, i do feel superior (and disgusted!)
Oh, one more thing. Ever want to hear people bashing and saying bad shit about America? Put two Americans together and start talking about politics.
Stuff a lot of foreigners say about China is TAME when compared with the shtuff we say about our own countries.
Just an FYI.
I love living in China. Best decision of my life. 99% of the people I've met here have been wonderful. The culture has taught me a lot, and I am often in awe of Chinese accomplishment.
But what I hate are the lazy, talentless braggers, who represent the other 1%. Little xiao huangdi that just hold their own country back.
Essentially this: if you brag about something enough, it will look bad in the eyes of others. Keep bragging about China and it will start to seem worse and worse. Be humble and it will seem better and better. Let China's history and culture speak for itself, it doesn't need such a poor spokesman.
I'm not sure what you mean exactly, godedenfaisse, but i'll do my best to give an accurate answer. I don't feel "elitist" nor do i think Canadian culture is better than Chinese. I even never asked myself that question.
However, not being able to speak an acceptable level of Chinese makes it hard for me to communicate with the locals. My circle of friends is almost exclusively expats, even though I'd be delighted to meet more locals. The language barrier can make things harder, and probably if we were able to communicate in the same language, we'd see we're all the same.
Chinese do seem to have a very thin skin when it comes to criticism. they get super defensive no matter how small the criticism. saying anything other than i love China and everything in it and its like you called their mom a dirty whore.
what bothers me is that that dosent apply to Chinese bashing everyone else. if i got as upset over the crap ive been told about the US i would have probably killed someone by now. but like MrTibbles said, nasty political fighting is nothing new. and ive had some fun and interesting arguments with people from other countries. something you cant do with most Chinese.
The problem with the OP is all he wants to hear is "No, how could a mere laowai feel elite or superior compared to the god-like Chinese? Please master, enlighten us with your 6000 years of wisdom, because we are nothing but uncultured barbarians."
I'd rather say something that the OP will actually understand:
"DERP! DERPADERP! DERRRRRRRRRPPPPPPPP!"
"This summer, godedenfaisse is.....
THE STAPLER!!
Di-derpy derp-de tumbly-tee!!"
Yes I feel superior to Chinese. But only narrow-minded twats like the OP.
I always thought China's history is *only* about 4000 year old. Maybe the pcp discovered an additional 2000 years?
Many foreigners do indeed come here and act elitist...I guess it's hard for some to shake off the fact that they come from a developed country and must re-adjust to living in a developing country, where let's face it, there are many major problems that need to be solved first, like pollution and corruption. But this doesn't excuse rude, arrogant behavior...and anyone who comes to China has to be respectful of their host country.
I do however feel that you godedenfaisse have a rather narrow approach to what you think classifies someone as being "better". 6000 years history, really? Don't forget, the rest of the world's country's have a long history too, and although not every country's history is as long as China's, each country's history is equal to another's in terms of value.
