I must say, when I first arrived in Beijjing and was looking for a job (and was thus financially prudent so to speak) these were a godsend. I can't remember too many of the establishment's names though there's Origus, and one that I frequented a fair amount was Big Pizza. 50 kuai for all you can pizza including salad, spaghetti, fruit, chips etc. Plus all you can drink watered-down beer. Of course the food quality is questionable and I made the huge mistake of once taking a girl on a date there but hey. I haven't been back in a good while though however I may repay a visit just for reminiscence sake.
The only buffet I saw was at a Sheridan, it was about 150 each, but worth it. It came with 2 bottles of wine which I left. I caught a flu that night, barely walked out. Always wondered if I caught it from the food. I like Chinese buffets at home, but I don't really onink out on them. And buffets at home can be cheaper than 50y
I've been to a couple of really good buffets and some pretty bad ones. The really good ones were all in the 100-200 price range (but then also included beer and wine)
Would not say I am a fan, but if the food is OK, it is a good variation of eating out. Just hate the stress from those places that gives you a set timeframe that is too short. I mean, buffet with ice cream and cake just needs more than two hours to "complete"
I recently went to an all you can eat resturant in Shenyang. It had the Korean BBQ on the table and all the usual variety of BBQ meats and sea food etc. Also had sushi, Peeking duck (OK but of course not top quality), planty of other hot dishes, salads, deserts, fruit and as much soft drink, juice or COLD local bottled beer as you wanted. 58Y each person. Great value at less than $10 Aus. There are quite a few of them now around the newer shopping precincts and they appear to be very clean (the bits you can see anyway).
Not at all. i eat about 2 dishes and about done. I can just go to a regular restaurant get my two dishes and pay half the price!
In a city where there is little variation in Western food and the better places are seriously overpriced, it's a good choice.
Also the missus prefers big pizza, etc, to pizza hut as she can eat Chinese and I can eat Western.
haha i doubt with the soaring living cost today, 50 RMB can still get u a good buffet..I think nowadays buffet are all like 100+, and they charge 10-15 % service charge...
But still, all u can eat buffet is the best if u r in the mood of eating !
Not a big fan of buffets anywhere in the world. Too many people standing over open trays of food, shedding anything and everything from... invisible bodily particles... minute flakes of skin... errant hairs... cough & sneeze droplets... to... handling/playing with the food as they fill up their plates... Meanwhile, the poor food is sitting out in the open - sometimes for several hours - growing some really yummy bacteria... Aww, well, you get the picture. Not for me. Table service, a la carte menu for me. Or dinner at home...
