Q: Better to date a local person or waidiren?

Just curious about your experiences in dating and relationships with Chinese people.  Have you found it better to date a local person (meaning the city you live in is the city they are from, and thus all of their family and friends are there as well), or have you found it better to date a 外地人 (wai di ren, more or less a migrant worker or someone who's not from the city you live in)?  Why?

My first gf was a wai di ren, but it was also a long distance relationship...just saw each other on the weekends and holidays.  Now I'm dating a local girl.  Just curious what other people's thoughts and perspectives are on this Smile

it depends on alot of things but everywhere local people are appreciated more cause they know their city and the dialect so it is easy to get around the city and easier to deal with some problems.....but this is only my opinion

I wouldn't decide who to date with according to Their home location.

For me - the person itself is much more important, then if She could be "more or less convenient" in circumstances...

I despise waidiren, coz most of them are not well-educated enough. they are gold-diggers and sometimes more like coming from the island inhabited by savages.

If you break up with a local girl, and it is a small city, everybody will know. At least if she is a stranger she won't have powerful friends in that city. I'm glad my ex was from Xi'an, so I didn't have to have much fallout as I was in Heilongjiang.

Seriously, can't you take someone as who they are instead of where they are from? You might as well ask should I date a Chinese girl or a White girl, because it's the same question, you don't take individual circumstance or even a person's individuality into account, I'm sure there are plenty of waidiren who have entire families in the city you are in, and plenty of locals who's families are busy being waidiren elsewhere.

main point, if you actually like the person, who gives one where they come from. who chooses someone to date based on where they are from anyway, nobody who is serious I'm sure.

cooter:

Ever heard of playing the field?  Let's just say I have "options"....and all things being equal between two (or more?) girls except where they are from (university educated, passable english, fun, etc).  So yeah, of course the individual is more important....I'm just asking about any potential pitfalls that may arise due to this uniquely Chinese "waidiren" issue.

A:Good question!  I'd say, if you study at Uni in China beside working full-time as an E.T. with Residence permit, you don't interfere with your full-time employment. It's your free time and you can do anything you want, with respect to the Chinese laws and customs. Have a look at terms of Z visa/Residence permit and ... ".. you cannot work (and earn monies!) with another employer ..."That's all it is! Your RP sponsor title is written on the RP stamp in your passport, I think. It's in Mandarin, so I've heard about that from someone ...At I.D.-ing by cops, they know where you work and than more details about you are just a phone call away ... and it happened in person ... LOL ... during the day-time stroll through Wulumuqi, Xinjiang, 2012/13 semester. Now under RP, you're free to surf Internet, jog, ... and study, too. I suggest, you look and ask at the Uni, you plan to study in the future. Have a detailed look at requirements for studying and attending chosen Uni.Good luck! -- icnif77
