How? It works just fine. I understand it uses Google's translation services. But it's machine translation, so I'd suggest using it to translate very simple phrases to avoid confusion, particularly if your other party isn't fluent in your L1. Type in your desired phrase, then press the translate button. I get this result when I type in English: " Once upon a time...(曾几何时... ...) " As you can see, the translator provides an L2 version of my original text after my text, not instead of it. Helpful, no?
