Q: Can I get a driver's license as a foreigner without already having one from home country?

I would like to get a Chinese driver's license and have been doing some research on how to go about getting one. However, all the info out there targeted towards foreigners in China presumes you already have a license from your home country. I don't have a license at all, so is it possible to get one from scratch as a foreigner? Any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, you just go through the same process as all the Chinese do. It might be easier to get a drivers license on your next trip home (if that is something that is doable in the normal duration of a trip home) then all you need is some paperwork and the theory test.

Scandinavian:

Oh, there is a deal where you are flown to Hainan, put in the actual test room but with a coach next to you. The full package is between 5-10000rmb. Here in Zhuhai, the full driving school will run upwards 5-6000 for the locals.

It depends on which province/city you are in.

Where I am (Shijiazhuang, Hebei) they refused to register me.

Not the school, the local bureau.

I was, therefore, unable to take any of the tests and no license for me.

I think you need  a residence permit to get a license, so if you're on a tourist or business visa it might not be possible. Otherwise, just ask at the local driving school, try to register, and remember, a packet of cigarettes and a gift card will go much further in helping you pass your test than actual competent driving wink

Yes you need a residence permit. You would need to go to a driving school and then start from the beginning.

You could always buy one. But it aint cheap. But the license is legal. Pm me if you want to be connected to people that can help you.

He should've stick to good old laxatives. Isn't that more fun than watching someone in total agony?

Really ? I have been driving for nearly 30 years and I have absolutely no real desire to even attempt it here. I live in a 4th tier city and if you think driving in a large city is dangerous you just need to venture out into the backwoods to see real back ass drivers.

The odds of you getting into an accident would be fairly high and the odds of you coming out on the losing side of the legal/expense end of that accident are nearly 100%.

A:Your potential employer is right! Demand for Medical exam before granting Z visa is to make sure, you won't be entering China in any abnormal and harmful to others condition.Few days after your arrival to China, you'll be required to complete another ME ... If ME in China will be OK, you'll get a Residence permit stamp into your book some 10-days afterwards. Imagine, you're an employer, who can sponsor my entry and work in China, but after my arrival to China, it would be found I carry some sickness, which would prevent Chinese .gov to issue a Residence permit. Rule is: Z visa should be converted into Residence permit in 30-days after arrival to China.    So, my advice is:"Complete ME in your home country and forward medical results to your employer".Z visa grant will follow shortly afterwards. Employer is not wrong at their demand for the pre-arrival ME from your home country hospital.   -- icnif77
