Q: Can I get a Q1-Q2 Visa if I do NOT go to my home country?

Hello everyone,

I sort of asked this question before but I need to ask again be quite frankly I got different answers and want to be VERY clear.

I am Canadian and there is a new law that you must leave the country and return for the new Q1-Q2 visas. These visas are related to family. I asked the local PSB and others and they know jack all (like usual).

Do I have to go to Canada to apply for this visa or can I go to say Thailand or somewhere else to get it?

I don't want speculation I need input from someone that has either done it or from someone you know that has done it.

Thanks!

i can speculate and deduce that it is plausible you may or may not be able to attain the visa during a full moon in a country that is bordering china.... or not... helpful?  sorry, i have no idea about this.  i thought you accepted a new job with a new company and was working out that visa!

Given that fact that the Z visa requires proper timing and more, he is making a backup plan (Q Visa), I think this is wise move because anything can change in day when working and living in China.

HK is your best bet man, before or after you get it make sure you ask the PSB about how long your marriage needs to last and how much money your wife needs in her account, then turn the Q visa into a residence permit.. more money, more years added to your RP, in Shenzhen 60,000 = 1 year, 100,000 = 2 years... but it might be different in your town..

Robk:

Yeah the money thing is not an issue really.

Just want to make sure I don't leave the country and then find out I can't get back in unless on a tourist visa or something lol.

I called: 4008-0606-56. Good news is they have the Q visa service for 800, but the bad news is that you and your wife must be in Shanghai and your wife must be Shanghai ren (Resident).

So she spoke perfect English and told me that every City is different and she said some cities Don't require you to leave, they'll give you a Family visa or a Q visa within China. So it's 50/50, I asked which cities, Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Dongguang and Shanghai don't require you to leave if your trying to get a Q visa that is turned into a RP and you have the money to backup your stay..

Man tell us again which city your wife is from?

Robk:

Thanks for the good feedback.

She is from Yuncheng, Shanxi. The capital being Taiyuan....

I could probably just bribe them into giving us one. But I prefer to know the legal route and not risk it unless I have to do so. Because then they will expect to be bribed each and every time.

I read somewhere that HK doesn't allow it and that you need to get it from your country of residence. But... that was on a website and is generalized information. I think will push further, I think my American friend got a Q1-Q2 visa and he lives in this city but he went back to America so that doesn't really help since it just confirms what I had already read.
