Q: Can my boss fire me and threaten me never to get a job in China again?

He told me that he would do this by taking my passport, and getting it stamped. I would then have 15 days to leave the country and will not be able to work here again. This threat has me worried. Could he use his connections at a police station to cause me trouble?

The reason for his threatening me, is because I have been late for work once or twice.

Just do a midnight runner right after pay day.

If he has your passport in his possession, demand its return and if he refuses go to public safety and report him immediately.

they can fire you .after that they might cancel your visa(if they had sponsored it)//
this is the worst case ..
but dont worry ,but you stiill have 10 legal days(at least) here. During this you can apply for a tourist visa (for which you dont need any employer) .. after that start travelling or you can find a new job and of course most of them will sponser your work visa ..
another idea ; go to the police right now ,you can prosecute your employer. his actions are against the chinese culture and there's a law in china for that too..
good luck !!

They cannot cancel your visa legally, unless they have your passport for some reason. They will say you are exiting then will go to the PSB and cancel it in your name. Now, they can cancel your foreign expert certificate which will be needed in order to renew some where else but they can give you a bad letter or recommendation which will effect you in that provience only. If you leave that provience there will be no problem. If you try and go to the PSB 9 out of 10 times it will work against you and they will ask you to exit the provience so beware of that fact. Please adhere to my advice. Never make trouble but you can just walk away, most embassies will not intervene in these situations unless you are jailed illegaly. Never give your employer your passport to hold on to for they can do things in your name.

Most schools that give you a visa get them from an agent and aren't allowed to hire non Chinese.

If it isn't a "real" work visa then you can also dob them in. the difference here is that they will be fined about 50,000 and closed down for inspection, mean while you will just leave the country.

It's a lie you cannot get a job again in China if you leave. Open your eyes; you'll see anything is possible in China when the right person in a school, company, place of government wants your skills. Smile again; the game is yours! Run off any time you need; but know these info on resigning:

There's a government for each province in China; if you break a Z Visa the government of the province you work in will take note and may refuse you another work related VISA in the next years (but you can still try, nothing's sure). But Visa for studies should be fine (X Visa).
In terms of work, the school you worked for will take revenge, not letting you use your Foreign Expert Certificate for another Z Visa job, so you might not be able to get another Z Visa in the near future anywhere in China, although eventually things will sort out one way or another; like you can get a job on a Business VISA or let your new employer put pressure on your old school for them to eventually release your Foreign Exp Cert to them.
I even heard that a whole new Foreign Expert Certificate can be made, but that depends on the local government and how good the schools’ relations with that local gov are.
Take note that there are 2 kinds of Certs in China: Foreign Exp Certificate for all education related jobs, and Scientific Expert Cert (not sure the exact name) for other jobs.
Worth knowing that you’ll probably never see your cert; employers keep it (apparently unlawfully), and will pass it on to your next employer.
The Foreign Exp Cert has an expiry date on it, but even after expiration you still need a release from the last employer who has it to get your next Z Visa job.
In the end, it’s just loads of red tape (bureaucracy); and where employers and governments like you and get along well together things become very easy.
However when you break a contract you burn bridges, make relationships bad, and that’s what you don’t want in China.
If you break a Z Visa contract, change province, and eventually start working on a Business VISA that doesn’t tie you down, cos F Visas (business) can be broken without future consequences I think.

However, regarding the Chinese gov and it's VISA Bureau the F Visa is not proven work experience, because F Visa is not official employment; only Z Visa is.

A:Good question!  I'd say, if you study at Uni in China beside working full-time as an E.T. with Residence permit, you don't interfere with your full-time employment. It's your free time and you can do anything you want, with respect to the Chinese laws and customs. Have a look at terms of Z visa/Residence permit and ... ".. you cannot work (and earn monies!) with another employer ..."That's all it is! Your RP sponsor title is written on the RP stamp in your passport, I think. It's in Mandarin, so I've heard about that from someone ...At I.D.-ing by cops, they know where you work and than more details about you are just a phone call away ... and it happened in person ... LOL ... during the day-time stroll through Wulumuqi, Xinjiang, 2012/13 semester. Now under RP, you're free to surf Internet, jog, ... and study, too. I suggest, you look and ask at the Uni, you plan to study in the future. Have a detailed look at requirements for studying and attending chosen Uni.Good luck! -- icnif77
