Q: Is the China news section of BBC website blocked?

I've been trying to read news about China on BBC's website but none of the pages load. Conversely, all other links to non-China related news work. Does the firewall block this or something? It used to always work.

Sometimes happened to me too. Yahoo and BBC, no problems with other UK newspapers.

I can't open NYT in Xin, and in Dalian was no different, so I assume, NYT is blocked in China.

Sometimes it is just specific articles I think, but you can be sure that any sites that write anything more negative than "China is the most awesome place in the world" will get blocked.

If you can't join them, block them.

i think it is a blanket ban of all China referencing pages - i have had the same problem here in the north of the country, but not when i was in the south.

The BBC has been accessible in the past, but recently, I have noticed all the China topic pages being un-openable.  It's because the BBC has had a lot of China news recently, and most of it has not been good, and has been rather accurate.

It's p***ing me off, to be honest.

I remember a couple of years ago when the BBC was regulalry off-line altogether in China.  That made me want to go and be an independent journalist (spy),

Moonlake:

I've noticed this too. I find it strange though that the Guardian doesn't seem to be affected. I've been reading a lot of China related articles about the recent incident if you know what I mean, and I didn't use a VPN to access it. I wonder if BBC had a falling out with China or something.

It's because the BBC is the most famous news broadcaster in the world, and they have worldwide coverage.  In comparison, who has heard of The Guardian?

Thing is, the BBC is good at reporting as they have many journalists around the world.

China is probably irritated at all the negative coverage.

In addition to this, can someone do me a favour and see if they can open cpfc.org?  It's my football fans' forum website.  I can't log-in to that either

Whole internet works today with some issues.

I asked my girlfriend to try accessing the BBC on her phone whilst in our home.  She couldn't.

So, it is clearly the sodding Government.  They had better stop all this shit.  I need to do things at home whilst here.

And this is why we do not mention web address here.                  There are people here that are paid for the  sole  purpose of tracking down stuff to block  .                                                                             I suggest you set up your own social networks that you can trust and talk amongst yourselves in private                                                         (this post will self destruct in 5.4.3.

The BBC Asia page is available.  Individual content on the BBC Asia page is not available.

The New York Times has been off limits for almost two years.  It was put off line after the Times created a furore at the time.

The BBC blockage is pretty sad, usually the coverage is fairly impartial and honest.

A:Good question!  I'd say, if you study at Uni in China beside working full-time as an E.T. with Residence permit, you don't interfere with your full-time employment. It's your free time and you can do anything you want, with respect to the Chinese laws and customs. Have a look at terms of Z visa/Residence permit and ... ".. you cannot work (and earn monies!) with another employer ..."That's all it is! Your RP sponsor title is written on the RP stamp in your passport, I think. It's in Mandarin, so I've heard about that from someone ...At I.D.-ing by cops, they know where you work and than more details about you are just a phone call away ... and it happened in person ... LOL ... during the day-time stroll through Wulumuqi, Xinjiang, 2012/13 semester. Now under RP, you're free to surf Internet, jog, ... and study, too. I suggest, you look and ask at the Uni, you plan to study in the future. Have a detailed look at requirements for studying and attending chosen Uni.Good luck! -- icnif77
