It's not the size of the force, but the way you use what you have. And Canada has a lot of powerful friends.

China really has very little experience in war tactics, not against other nations anyway. In that respect, I think the Boy Scouts could rally and win a war.

nevermind:

Canada also has an military full of well trained psychopaths.

I am sure no one wants to be witness of war anywhere in this planet; china has very strong foreign policy with countries such as North Korea, Iran etc. as well with western counties so we can’t say china is alone with no strong friends. In the matter of technology has good abilities, and military equipment is nothing less than western countries and most advanced part is number of Soldier.

beaufortninja:

NATO alone accounts for over 70% of total military spending in the world. China's allies for the most part are weak outcasts crippled by international sanction. The only ally they might have who could pull its own weight is Russia and they have problems of their own. Don't count on them to save China when the chips are down.

This is a subjective question.
I don't think you will ever see 2 or more major powers wage war against each other anymore. If it happened (with modern technology) this would escalate into a world war with catastrophic results. This is why we have only seen proxy wars for the past 65 years.
It's all about smoke and mirrors, perception of power, and deterrents.

Well, like Einstein said, world war two something something rocks something something.

If China declares war to save face over some perceived slight (a real possibility), or the US declares war because the some politician saw Jesus in a dream, or if the Europeans ever feel like playing another round of the great game, it would be the end of modern life as we all know it. Who cares what countries are powerful anymore? Once two of the big dogs go at it, it's game over for civilization.

China currently has the world's second largest economy which sounds impressive but it's GDP per capita is $4,382. Not that impressive. America's GDP per capita is $46,860 while Japan's is $42,783. While China's overall economy may be larger, the wealth is spread out among far more people and its citizens are not very prosperous by developed country standards.

China is a regional military power. It's building aircraft carriers, stealth fighters and other things but its technology is far less advanced than leading Western powers. China's military is large but most of it is relegated to border protection and domestic security. Any large conflict will likely be fought between NATO and US allies against China and most SCO member states. And the SCO is outmatched by an incredibly wide margin in terms of manpower and technology.

China's diplomatic corps are an embarrassment to their profession and constantly lead China's international reputation down the toilet. That's not China bashing, that's just calling it like it is. I can't even count how many times China has employed the classic saber-rattling tactic to voice it's displeasure. While China may be the rising star of the first half of the 21st century, it might become the next outcast if it doesn't put on its big boy pants soon. So there ya go. A decent military with a large economy. Is that what makes a country powerful?

China is not as powerful as they would like to think. All their rockets, weapons and said aircraft carriers were built with russia's assistance. in a country with 1.5 billion people 6000 years of history they cant design and build their own weapons! another thing , china is growing more and more unstable domestically. if they must commit a sizable military force abroad then many would seize the moment to revolt. but there is 1 wild card, if china is engaged in a campaign against a really and truly hated country that may cause the population to rally behind the CCP banner and industry can enable them to outlast any other country (except western powers or russia, or strong mid east countries)
i honestly think china's biggest weakness are the men in the country. soldiers make armies , no matter how technologically advanced you are , if you are fighting against "BADASS" soldiers you will not win, vietnam is a perfect example

It is yes. But it's not a respected one. The other thing too is that their army is only large. The training and equipment is second rate. Ever see Chinese soldiers marching? They march like they are in the reserves. Fairly sad.

This country can puff its chest up as much as it wants, but the fact is, if the bullets started flying they would likely be massacred.

You people should look up Canada's military history more. It's an extremely effective fighting force with a proud history. The Canadian forces may be small, but pound for pound is pretty badass. If the US was next door to you, you'd have a pretty well-trained army too.

beaufortninja:

Canada is militarily inferior to the US in every way. So it's a good thing that they have similar culture, values, and national interests which makes them bfffs.

No it isn't. Canada's military is far superior to the US army in terms of training.Pound for pound we're better. In fact, it was Canada's military that taught you how to be commandos. Our pilots also train alot of your airforce. We also have the best snipers on the planet. The Canadian military is a professional army. Not a place poor people spend two years to get college money. Our basic training last almost a full year, the us is three months.

You mad bro? Canadians always brag about their military. They have to think they're the best at something, especially since they can't even beat Americans in hockey anymore. Think what you want buddy. All I know is, a free ride to college is the least the government can do for sending them to fight in unjust wars. And basic training for the average recruit is 3 months. Then you go to specialization training which can last anywhere from 4 months to several years. If you're an officer then you have even more training. And then on top of that, you have to go for more training every year that you're in the service.I know you're proud of your country and all but at least know what you're talking about before you try to get big. Thank you.

More than 200 Canadians were killed in the Afghan war. No one ever attacked Canada, they attacked the USA. Our people died for YOU. More than 60,000 Canadians were killed in WW2, we joined that fight before the US did. But, or course, we knew hitler HAD weapons. Currently Canada is one per cent of the world's population, but provides ten per cent of its peacekeeping forces. I'm not bragging about anything. Some one made a false statement, I just told them it was false. We just beat your ass for a gold in hockey in 2002 and 2010, buddy. As for the rest, I know what i'm talking about. And if you talk to any service man from any country they'll tell you the training of the US army is roundly considered inferior by other militaries. The us army relies on numbers. And our extended training last longer than basic as well. I was making a point about basic. No, I'm not mad, but you seem to be. Maybe it';s cause your nation is going down the pooper.

Nope, not mad. Just finally understand why all the Americans up north complain about the Canadians. And no. Your soldiers didn't die for me. They died for the greed of international corporations who want to exploit Afghanistan's resources. And no, America's military is not considered inferior by other militaries. Seems to me like you're just a whiny Canadian with a chip on your shoulder. But whatever, you wouldn't be the first one I've encountered on the interwebz. And that was a nice little swipe at the US's recent difficulties, how unexpected! Haha. Don't get upset when Canada becomes the junior member in a North American Union. Guess who it's going to be taking orders from like usual? Don't lose any sleep over it. Peace out bruh.

I agree - the US military, as far as training for some of its more sizable forces (basic army, for example) IS considered laughable by the rest of the industrialised world's military. Sure, the US SPECIALISED training is good, and better than others in the world (on a case-by-case basis!) - but your basic recruits are a joke - as Nevermind pointed out, many (if not most) come from low-income families as a way to improve their situation - thus, they are poorly educated, and have joined the military for questionable reasons! Most other military personnel around the rest of the world (NOT including China :p), don't have such an obvious drawback. They are, unfortunately, merely cannon-fodder :( The standard idea of those troops is to put as many shells out of your gun as you can... and hope you hit something. Most other military forces believe in conserving ammunition, and thus try to place their shots. We know US technology is good... and, as I said, many specialised services are good, but unfortunately, in other respects, the US military is a joke... sorry! And thus, the Canadian military is, in some ways, superior (although vastly outnumbered) to the US military. (no, I'm not Canadian)

China is all about face. It looks like it's powerful, it acts like it's powerful, but it doesn't have any real power behind its claims. Like others said, if China went to war against a Western nation, that Western nation certainly wouldn't be fighting alone. It would be joined by close allies, especially if China made the first move. Honestly it doesn't matter who would win, it's not going to happen. I certainly hope nobody's stupid enough for that.

I think this is a galatically stupid question because being a powerful nation does not neccessarily mean that your a war mongering nation. Of course the us is such a nation which is why it is almost the most hated nation in existence. If you consider the uk in the modern era it is without question a good example of being a powerful nation but no longer capable of being a great military power. In many ways the uk depends on its past reputation and not alot else for it has shown itself to be utterly impotent especially when it comes to saying no to joining up to americas wars.  Also if we are talking about western nations like germany and france they have not been involved in any real conflict for decades so there ability to support anyone else is almost laughable. but in reality power has more to do with restraint otherwise the ability to do something but the wisdom not to do it.

You forgot to add a question mark Paul. NO, IT"S NOT!!!!!!!!!!!! :( And, what drives me up the wall is how people in the West seem to think so..and this "OMG!..China is getting so powerful blah blah blah, etc." angst and dread!!!!!!!!!!!! :( STFU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :( Get some balls!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Pardon me ladies.) As I have read, China has 10 times the problems of my country..the U.S.A.. As I've also read on this website, it's like a house of cards ready to fall. It wouldn't take much. Look at what happened to Russia in 1989. Look at the Asian Economic Crisis in 1997. I could go on and on and on.

China is already the most powerful nation, they may not have the Weapons yet but China has the money and knowledge to start producing one hell of weapon base within 1 month time.
Also account all the Chinese overseas who will help, hell yah.

USA comes as nr 2 and jApan nr 3. Germany as forth.

Of all these countries USA will drop to number 4 in the near future, their debt and oil affection is to high. UK can nuke USA anytime !

China's debt is 160% of GDP. They're broke. That's why the local and provincial governments are borrowing all their money from the banks. But the banks are owned by the government so they're borrowing money from themselves that they'll never pay back which in turn is why inflation is so bad. Also, since 2008, exports have dropped by 50%.

But no, I'm sure China will be #1. (sarcasm)

I think the British commandos have a motto that says "Glory Goes To Those Who Dare"

And Canadian Commandos have a motto that says "We Dare!".

Can any of the Canadian posters here verify if this is true or not?

I'm more worried about the possibility of a snap judgement made at the hands of a  "trained" Chinese military official. Not to cause dispersions here, but the Chinese have very little capacity for understanding the concept of cause and effect, I envisage a future scenario whereby the aforementioned individual, acting on blind impulse (and possible nationalistic fervor) makes a mistake that causes the shit to hit the fan.
