I assume you are asking about Xiangqi aka Chinese Chess and not Go (weiqi).
Well, yes and no. It is similar to chess but follows different rules and strategies. I wouldn't say it's any more complicated than chess, but like chess, you can know how to play and still lose a lot because of poor strategy. The rules are simple but the strategy is key.
There are a lot of websites devoted to the game (even in English). I would recommend learning it as it is a lot of fun (if you enjoy games like Chess) and it's a great way to meet some local friends (bring a set to a bar and you'll end up playing a bunch of games).
Go on the other hand..... Highly highly complicated.
