Q: Chinese films: Do you wish more of them to be remade by Hollywood ?

Hollywood has remade quite a bunch of Asian and European originated films. It’s a win-win situation for all as studios get a ‘tested’ formula (lower investment risk), films get a wider canvas+market and audience a bigger choice.

Some remarkable remakes of Chinese films are ‘The Departed’ (Remake of Infernal Affairs which won Oscars too), ‘The Eye’ (Remake of The Eye (Gin Gwai)) and ‘Tortilla Soup’ (Remake of Eat Drink Man Woman).

Which other Chinese films (if any) you wish to be remade by Hollywood ?

Hollywood currently churns out movie after movie of pointless, plotless bollocks. While I have seen some Chinese cinema that is good (A Touch of Sin, The City of Life and Death, et al) most Chinese movies mimic Hollywood in their vapidity and shallowness. It sounds like a match made in heaven.

Chinese films??? WTF!!! Ok, you can make an argument for Hong Kong but Taiwan is a completely different country. So Beijing can't take credit for any of Taiwan's achievements. And Beijing can't claim credit for any of Hong Kong's achievements either. Hong Kong is a product of Democracy , freedom and free speech. That's why the mainland makes 0 cultural contributions to the world and is left trying to steal achievements, fables and even bible stories from others. They copy every damn thing but want to act superior and then pay brain dead morons to post questions like this that are based on pure fantasy.

As expected from you, you've crapped like a perfectly illogical and ignorant fool!

No. I would like to be able to understand more dialogue (well... maybe not Tongue)

I do like some of the 'kung fu' movies that abound - but I don't think Hollywood is going to actually make anything that would be deserving of it...

When  Hollywood does a remake, it usually sucks (well, it's rarely better than the original - please name some if possible....). Special effects don't make for better movies!

If they did a remake, they're be happy endings everywhere (and yes, you can take that either way ;p)

WhyHowWhen:

The Departed had won quite a few Oscars

Old The Magnificient Seven was another good remake of Japanese Seven Samurai.

True, many Chinese martial art films are nice!

A:Chinese are generally pretty tolerant friendly and accepting whatever foreigners do.  I spent 15 years in China but I wouldn't say there are that many don'ts....Don't assume that many people speak English though and learn some Chinese. Don't speak much about politics unless you want to praise Chinese system.  -- Natalie363
