Is it purely chosen on logistical criteria? When both families can or can't be there? Or do couples consider other aspects when making a decision?

In traditional Chinese, an astrologer is hired and given background information on the groom and bride, and with that he/she will choose an "auspicious" date for the wedding to insure happiness and prosperity. Choosing a wedding date has nothing to do with any logistical criteria, nor when family members could be available, or anything related to a western way of choosing a wedding date, just the word of a person as to when it is a proper date.
I will give you an example. My GF male cousin is in his early 40's never married. His GF is 33 years old, never married either. Their "astrologer" decided that their best date for marriage and insure success would be in July 13 of 2016, and I am serious about this. Both are in agreement to be married on that date, over 4 years into the future. Until then, and since they are engaged to be married, it is OK to live together.
It is their custom, their tradition and culture. And we are here, and must accept and respect it.
