Yes, I once broke wind after eating one of the dishes.

The restaurant charged me 230 rmb as all the other guests left in a hurry.

My wife broke a glass once and was asked to pay 10 rmb for it. Considering that we were very good customers and the owner was a dick to us in other ways that night I called him a pian zi and told him I'd never be back. He screamed at me out the door, I told him "fuck you" and I haven't been back.

I haven’t broken anything as such but did once witness two women in a supermarket not paying attention to where they were walking or other customers and ended up smashing their shopping cart into a huge pyramid of Bacardi breezer cocktail bottles. The two women didn’t bat an eyelid and carried on as if nothing happened while all the bottles were scattered all over the floor with several smashed, a few workers came to clean up the mess and just rolled their eyes and looked pissed off ( I kind of felt bad for them). I thought maybe the women would apologise or need to pay for the broken bottles because it was completely their fault but nothing happened they continued shopping, oh the joys of not losing face in public.

I know a Greek bar that sells plates by the box to break.

not restaurant, but a club... friend of mine broke a huge beer glass and denied doing it. They took all of us in the back room, showed us the instant cctv footage... turns out he accidently did! paid 50 rmb for it and left... 

when we came out, we knew which way to look for hot chicks

so-called 5 star hotel in Beijing, around 3am:

My younger son vomited all over my older son's head. Some went on the top sheet. My husband called housekeeping to request a clean sheet.

a little bit later someone called the room. It was the night manager and he wanted to talk about "compensation."  (How I loathe that effing word.)

husband screamed at him that we could talk about effing compensation in the morning, we had a sick kid and needed the sheet replaced NOW.

A few minutes later there was a knock on the door. Was it housekeeping with a new sheet? Nope. It was a guy in a suit with a camera there to take pictures of the "damages."

When we checked out, they added about 60rmb for the dirty sheet.

This kind of short sighted, petty nickel and dime-ing  and cruddy service is why after that experience we always try to stay in Western brand hotels when in China.

Yes I do broke a quarter dish in Moon Thai Weston restaurant but the manager was very nice and I didn't have charged for it accept the food I ate. Such nice people are very few and seen very less.
