I am a lover of trying different kinds of street food. Yes I know that there is lots of hygene issues involved but (touch wood). I have survived pretty well so far. What's you take on street food. Are you adventurous like me? What have you eaten that you could recommend so I can add it to my bucket list? Please give me it's name and a brief description.
Several years ago, I used to go to some night markets to try different kind of food. Naturally, you need the right dose of medicine with you, as there is lots of chance you get diarrhea.
But what I like most is the nam (kind of bread that Xinjiang people eat)
sugar cane. I buy some every time I see it. The green stuff. Don't buy the purple stuff. It's nutritious and it keeps your teeth strong.

Dont mind the cane myself. Also like the juice with cumquat juice mixed in to add a little sour to the sweetness.
Street food is one of the best things about China, IMO. I love the mushroom, prawn, and pork barbeque as well as the bread they call, mantou (?). I try to go out and eat at least once a week. Yeah, I know it is unhealthy because of the carcinogenic charcoal they use, but I cannot resist.
Ya'll are adventurous...can't bring myself to try it yet.
The last hole in the wall restaurant gave me the shits for days.
Street food is basically all I eat when I have a choice.
As far as favorite, right now I got this little lady that sell various sticks of meats and veggies and fries them in oil. I have her stuff four skewers of chicken and a couple of skewers of veggies in pita bread with some spices. Super tasty sandwich that's even good out of the fridge the day after. And it only cost 6 yuan.
Zhou's black duck along with the tofu skin and lotus root.
Chao mian is hard to beat.
Singapore noodles, or Fan Sùe -- the rice angel hair noodles... this is actually the only thing I really like here, I pray for a proper pizza.....
hope u had you hypititus shoots if u eat off the streets

The food in the mid sized restaurants are just as dirty if not worse than the street food. Except with the street food they fix it in front of you, so they're not going to pick it back up off the floor and eat a little bit of it themselves. And unlike the minimum wage employee of the restaurants, this little place is the person lively hood and they take pride in their product.
I know it's quite good but I don't fancy being sick . I did hear there's this place with kebabs in Shanghai though , I'd totally be willing to try that !
