Q: Do you ever sing karaoke? What's your song? What's not?

I'm no Frank Sinatra but I can carry a tune; brought the house down once with 'You're Just Too Good To Be True' but then I also died a death another night when I tried to sing 'Start' by The Jam. It got so bad the manager pulled the plug on the machine and threw a stool at me. Slow and low suits the crooner in me though.

'SHE GIMME RUV, RUV, RUV, RUV, CLAAAZY RUV."

  What of yourself?

Haven't been in a while.

Back in the day, depending on my level of inebriation, a rousing rendition of "Bad Romance" by Lady Gaga usually occured.

Myself and a foreign colleague had ourselves in stitches with a spectacularly bad, high pitched and squeaky rendition of "what's going on?" on one of the few times I actually braved the karaoke halls. Our Chinese colleagues were less than impressed - I don't think they thought we were taking it seriously enough.

Hotel California is my first song always.  I can nail it every time almost as good as Henley.

At business KTV sessions I love to see their jaws drop....look...laowai can sing.

After this I can get adventurous as by then everyone is getting pretty drunk and not really paying much attention...like Green Day or Linken Park....good times.

Paranoid by Black Sabbath

It's rather eye opening in contrast to this soft pulpy nonsense that classifies as Chinese "music". Similar to the dude's experience with Hotel California (above).

One thing I really love about Chinese people is that they will do karaoke without any self-consciousness. Very cool.

bill8899:

Cool, but which KTV has Paranoid? And do they have Crazy Train?

hahahahahahahahahaha
