Q: Do you have to leave mainland China to change from an F visa to an X visa?

I'm currently in Shenzhen on an F visa. I'm about to apply for an X visa. Do I have to return to my home country (Canada) to apply? What about to make it valid after I've applied?

Yeah, leaving the country was mandatory. However, with the new visa rules that came into effect on Sep 1, I'm not sure what the deal is now. You're best bet is to find a visa agency to answer those questions for you.

I changed from a Z to an L, then from the L to an X. I didn't have to leave the mainland, but this was a little before September 1st.
I was told I couldn't change from a Z to an X. I had to change to an L first.
Let us know how it goes!
