Ok, this is one of those inane questions we ask on here from time to (all the) time, but it's one I wonder about as it seems to me the Chinese choose to do their showering in the evening whereas, as I understand it, westerners mostly shower in the morning. Is this correct, and if so, why? I'm guessing it's got something to do with morning temperatures and no central heating, but still, nippy or not I can't start the day fresh without one.
Usually both. Since it can be so bloody hot in this part of the world I sweat too much to be able to be around other people without at least two showers per day. In the colder months maybe it is just one. But I do like a shower in the morning to wake up.
Morning routing: Shit, Shave, Shower. "Sadly" I don't have the shower above a squatter, that would mean some serious multitasking could save me a lot of time and TP.
Westerner: Ah! Nothing like a nice shower to wake me up in the morning and get me ready for my day!
Chinese: Ah! Nothing like a nice shower to wind me down at night and get me ready for bed!

not true...
i always hated to take shower in the morning and let my car find the way to my work alone while i was sleeping behind the stiring wheel
I took the Asian way (not only Chinese do this, Vietnamese too, at least) and switched to evening shower since long ago. The rationale is to be all fresh and clean in the bed, makes sense to me. Anyway, if one in the bed is just out from the shower while the other one is, hu, not fresh, how can it work ? Morning, face washing with cold water.
When alone: Morning only (Must)
When the lady around bed: Evening (must be for both), Morning (For myself).
Summer day: I sweat a lot. If I feel I am distracted from the work, just run to home, take shower and back to office again.
Usually, I do both. A morning shower helps me get fresh for the day, and wash off any sweat from the night (mostly in the summer). Evening showers get me cleaned up before bed.
If I'm pressed for time, though, I might skip the morning shower, but not the evening one.
Both (or several times in the summer). The idea of showering at night to be fresh for bed is good if you're sleeping with someone else but the number of dead skin cells you shed will still require a shower in the morning.
Evening to wash away the grime of the day and keep the bed sheets clean so I don't have to launder them every week. Morning to wake up and style my fro so it looks cool when I start a new day.
But when Vickie comes round to pay her r-e-s-p-e-c-t, three times a day.Sometimes 4.
In winter, In Hebei usually in the morning if I wasn't too late getting up
Now in Kunming.. solar powered hot water. Too bloody cold in the mornings, so I usually wait til evening after it's had the whole day to warm up.
In summer, two or three times a day.
Evening and morning. In summer up to twice more - so hot
A shower before bed is a must, whether alone or not. My bed is my sanctuary and the thought of carrying the filth of the day into it makes me shudder.
A morning shower depends on other factors.
Both ! Evening to do my bed job and morning for going to work with shining and smiling face .....
with cold weather, i only shower in the morning. westerners have stronger BO, so i want to be confident that i'm not exposing anyone to my odour when i go to work. summers can be really sweaty, so even 2 showers a day wont get rid of all BO. i've received abundant criticism for "going to bed dirty", butthat criticism is based on the premise that your bed is clean. i don't go by that assumption
Do Chinese people even take a shower everyday? My co-workers do it three times a week or less in Winter. We all live in the city not in the rural area where they surely don't do it on daily basis. I traveled to my co-worker's province, a rural area and I can say in one week I only took a shower once. Yeah, that doesn't sound good.

i think in winter when it is very cold (non city area) they will take maybe a shower once a week. houses are not heated and water has to be heated electrical for a long time which cost quite alot money.
and who wanna take shower when it is -10 degree inside the house
TianjinCity:
Yes you are right that's what I witnessed in my trip. What I said is that they live in the city, I made that clear. They live in houses equipped with central heating systems. In my country in the northern areas many years ago houses also didn't have central heating systems, Winter was rough and people poor, still, many people would do a minimum hygiene, everyday or almost everyday. Here, they only wash their faces and feet before going to bed, on a daily basis. What about the rest? That's gross and it has nothing to due with poverty. That has to do with lack of hygiene or it's a cultural thing.
in America, definitely in the morning.. needed it to start my day. in china, where going outside you walk in and through some very horrible conditions, i MUST shower before i head to bed. my bed is one of the few sanctuaries i have in this chaotic thing called china... i can't imagine what is stuck on me and my clothes, so i would never climb into bed like that...
During summer, both.
I'm too lazy to shower before bed during winter. I know some of your are probably thinking "but then you'll spread that filth all over your bed", but I tend to sweat pretty easily when it's hot, and since I also enjoy keeping my bedroom really warm, I'll end up filthy in the morning anyway.
So yeah, nothing beats a good morning shower to start the day.
when im going out, i take shower in the morning or an hour before i go ..but if m schedule is to go bummed inside the house i take a shower in the evening or sometimes..i don't take a bath at all! hah!
In the evenings here. It's because of the filth that you pick up everyday. Back home I would do it in the morning.
Although, since I have started fighting the flab by going to the gym, I am showering twice a day.

At home I showered in the mornings, but I seemed to have moved it to the evenings. Agree with romeos, I can feel the dirt on me by the end of the day.
In winter, I also don't let going outside with wet hair, but can't be bothered to buy a hair dryer, and in the summer, all day long.
I usually shower in the morning, if it's been an especially hot day (which there are many during summer months) then I may take a shower in the evening, just after arriving home.
For me I need a shower in the morning as I often sweat when I'm sleeping, been like that my whole life.
