Q: Do you think your stay in China has caused you to physically age quicker?
Obviously if you've been here for several years you're going to age naturally, but for some of us I do wonder if the pollution, bad water we wash in, food quality and the stressful nature of life (at least for me in Beijing) has caused me to age a bit quicker than I would have normally. I can't tell myself, as I am lucky enough to glance at my sexy mug in the mirror everyday so don't really notice the difference. I came here when I was almost 22, I'm now 26 and apart from generally, I dunno, "looking more mature" I guess, I can't tell if I've changed significantly or not. Will see what my friends back home have to say when I next visit I guess!
Not sure about that one. I think ageing depends on how well you take care of yourself, not on what country you live in. I think I still look pretty fresh faced compared to some of my classmates back home but I think this might be down to styling and the fact that I haven't let myself completely go. I occasionally spy on old classmates on facebook and some of them dress like 40 year olds (even though they're in their mid 20s), put on way too much make-up and use a foundation colour that's way too dark for their natural complexion, and many have put on a shocking amount of weight since finishing school which also makes them look older.
I think I've aged here more quickly than had I stayed back home. Probably double the going rate: 8 years in 4? Due to heavy work load, daily frustrations due to not knowing the language, overdrinking, no leisure time, no exercise. Don't think the food or pollution has anything to do with it. (Don't live in BJ. QD.)
If anything it's made me more mature so you can kind of say that yes. WHen you become more independent you might feel like you've been aging quicker. That's natural!

Yeah, like 15 years.
I do feel older now. I'm 27 but I feel like I'm late 30's, early 40's. I was more more youthful when I got here 4 years ago, eating bbq and drinking beer in the wee hours of the night, going to ktvs and having random conversations with the local bar staff. Now I don't go out nearly as much, there's so much to deal with and I'm rarely optimistic when I return home so it feels like most of the time there's no point. I cook most of my food so I don't think that has much to do with aging. I'm sure the pollution may have an effect though. I went for a late night walk a few nights ago and woke up with the worst sore throat and some crazy sinus issues. Not cool.
