Q: Does anybody has experience with doing his income tax?

Hello,

We currently working on a project for the taxation office where we have been asked to make a short movie. In this movie, the government wants to explain to foreigners how to fill out the forms and how to pay income taxes in China. For me, my employer is doing all this, which means I have not really an idea about the troubles foreigners could have with doing this. As we want the video to be useful  and informative it would be great if some of you could share your stories about this topic.

Thank you very much for your help.

Thank you for your answer.

After I read the brochure from the government about IIT I am also quite a bit confused what they are exactly going for, but I will figure it out. I agree with your points and I will try to address the last one in the video.

For the first one there actually is a brochure about that topic which should cover your questions. You can get it at your local taxation bureau and it is in English.

Hotwater:

Thanks for the info about the English brochure. Been meaning to go to the tax office for quite a while to get my last four years worth of tax certificates!

I struggle to understand why the government would do this.

If you are employed by a company, which is the majority of us, then the employer should deal with it.

If you own your own company (whether a joint venture or a WFOE) then either employ a compnay to do your accounts/taxes or maybe in this case you might need to do them yourself. In which case you'd be best suited to pay someone.

What I'd like to see is the government to produce a fact sheet (in English at a minimum) that is given to foreign employees when they start work that details the following as a minimum:

1) What the relevant tax bands and allowances are plus how to calculate them (though there are tax calculators online like sjgrand)

2) What the employers obligations are in respect of ITIP and reporting of paying tax to the employee. This would include arranging the tax certificates for them

3) How to (easily) check whether the employer has actually been paying tax

In fact, in  my view, any foreigners employed in China should be given a fact sheet outlining the various rules and regulations, where to go for help if the employer breaks the rules, etc. This could be issued to us when our work permits are issued.

A:Good question!  I'd say, if you study at Uni in China beside working full-time as an E.T. with Residence permit, you don't interfere with your full-time employment. It's your free time and you can do anything you want, with respect to the Chinese laws and customs. Have a look at terms of Z visa/Residence permit and ... ".. you cannot work (and earn monies!) with another employer ..."That's all it is! Your RP sponsor title is written on the RP stamp in your passport, I think. It's in Mandarin, so I've heard about that from someone ...At I.D.-ing by cops, they know where you work and than more details about you are just a phone call away ... and it happened in person ... LOL ... during the day-time stroll through Wulumuqi, Xinjiang, 2012/13 semester. Now under RP, you're free to surf Internet, jog, ... and study, too. I suggest, you look and ask at the Uni, you plan to study in the future. Have a detailed look at requirements for studying and attending chosen Uni.Good luck! -- icnif77
