Q: Does black cabs in you city drive same car model(s) as the real cabs?

Here, the taxi of choice is a VW Jetta. They are painted green with a little yellow here and there. A large part of the black cabs are green Jettas, there are som Jettas in different colors (mainly grey) and of course also some other car brands. But the Jetta is the car of choice for black cabs.

I can see this make sense as it is most likely a very reliable car (being designed by Germans in the 1970/80ies) but why not a nice BYD F3, a Honda of something.

Is it to pretend to look authentic ?

Taxis in Beijing are Hyundais or Volkswagen. Black cabs on other hand can range from almost any different car brand and color. All they do is prop a red light on their windscreen so you're given a warning not to take them.
