Q: Does China have saints?

In the West we have St Augustine (patron saint of furry creatures), St Michael (patron saint of wind and rocks), and St Hubbard (patron saint of quality footwear): I'd like to know if China has any saints?

If you really want to break it down saints are sort of like minor gods that people pray to in the West for specific things...like you mentioned...although not accurately.

In Chinese folk religion they have something similar, but they are not called "saints". Chinese folk religion has different minor gods in charge of different things. Also in Chinese folk religion often times a famous person would end up getting supernatural status in the years after their death. Say for instance if a city had a great ruler and that ruler died...over the years he might become a city god and in fact many cities in China have ancient folk religion deities.

So I think they have something similar, but just like saints no one really believes in them anymore.
