Q: does the gas barbeque exist in China?

I wanted to eat in Chinese restaurants. My Chinese friends seemed to like American type steak house. I tried to tell them this is normal food for me and something that I would rather have at home than eat out. They do not barbeque.
Do you have or miss barbequing? Steaks have to be barbequed. I do the beer can chicken covered in spices. Burgers absolutely.

You can sometimes find the little cheap charcoal grills for sale. Haven't seen any gas grills around though. I personally went the cheap college student way and brought back a George Foreman last time I went home. Smile

I had a gas grill, so yes they do. I bought mine at Carrefour in Shanghai, but I sold it a few years back because I really prefer grilling on charcoal.

i bought a charcoal grill before and cooked on it and the gas one when I had a party,, could not tell the dif except charcoal may have ash on it. the charcoal one takes too long and needs more cleaning.

MrTibbles:

I found a bag of hickory wood chips at Carrefour so I soak them and put them on the coals for some nice hickory flavor!

Some sites of Interest have barbecues for hire, a lot of students from my University go there to have a BBQ, they seem to like the idea. They buy chicken, mutton, onions, some vegetables and corn to cook. So I guess the BBQ is fairly common. They work out the cost for the bus, food and hire and go and have a great time!

At Metro in Nanjing i saw i good gas BBQ, which was marked down. All stainless steel and good quality for under 1000. Its big (not like my charcoal one i have). I think in the west this model could cost you at least 3000. I didn't take it as I will leave early next year.

TedDBayer:

can stainless one at home for over 2000y,and up

A:No, it's not allowed to work under RP at 2nd job! I'd say, Z visa/RP sponsor can have an objections to your part-time job. I did the same at my English teaching in China and elsewhere, butT ... I casually mentioned at my prime job, some kindergarten or another school asked me to work with them part-time. Then, my Q: "Is that permitted?" ...  Answer from RP sponsor was always "Yes, but you can't be late or miss the classes at our school ..." with my reply: "No, our work schedule has a priority, and I'll arrange classes at kindergarten only in my free time." When I cleared that, I was undertaking any extra teaching hours at other schools and private students in my free time.Sometimes, teachers at my prime job asked me if I'm willing to have some extra classes elsewhere.I accepted after the talk with School's principal. I suggest, you test the felling at your Z/RP sponsor and once you see they don't object, you can work at 2nd job. Keeping your 2nd job as a secret from your employer won't work, 'cause you're laowai and Chinese know exactly what you do in your free time. However, despite your employer's agreement for extra work, you are still in violation of Chinese Labour law, and even if your sponsor agrees to your extra work, you can still get in trouble, because it's clearly written (somewhere ... ) that under Z/WP, one can work only at the Z-sponsor and nowhere else. Penalties ... I'd say, there won't be any warnings and you'll be required to exit China in short Exit time.It never happened to me, so I can't really advice how is when manure hits the fan ...  -- icnif77
