Q: Dragging feet syndrome

Not to be a bore or anything. A pedantic tw*t sure ok... But what the hell is with people dragging the feet as they walk? Not everyone does it, but sometimes I feel as though I am in a remake of the "Walking Dead" or something else possibly a little more bizzare!

I have witnessed lazy before, but this is beyond the boundaries I can assure you. Oh and most of them are not even wearing sandals or flip flops before you assume lol.

Forgive the people that drag their feet..they are probably just lazy. Probably never played sports before or had a coach tell them to pick their feet up.

I find it's usually either those of low self-esteem or those that are "fashionable".  The kind of fashion that gives us those lens-less glasses.

JustinF:

Yes. this seems to be a trend in the West.

The majority of them display the classical symptoms of the un-dead... the Zombie - if you like. It is not just the dragging of the feet but when you look into their eyes as they wander around...  There is a 'dead-eye' look... the shark also displays a 'dead-eye' look... there seems to be nothing entering their concious.. nothing registering.. !

You seem them in the middle of a 6 lane inner city road,as they try to cross it... Why do it ? These things are called cars ! This is a busy road ! Why do it ? And why do it with a dumb look on your face ...? A look of bewilderment ( ?) .. A some sort of 'shocked' .. " Where did these cars come from !"?" look..

Excuse my punctuation but there are so many questions - relating to the whys and wherefores that I don't know how to describe what I see daily.

The place is as mad as cheese !wink

Friendly though... Pretty girls - sure .  But mad ! ( in a nice-ish way,I'd rather be here than India/Afghan.,Pakistan... - you get my drift).

When i arrived first to work in China, it was summer and i thought this 'foot dragging' was due to the heat. I became confused when it got colder and people still dragged their feet when they walked. the reason why they do this? Maybe a Chinese poster can supply a reason.

SO FUNNY.

I had dinner after viewing this post a hour ago.I was quite confused, was there anything wrong with my eyes so I didn't notice the things you talked about?or maybe there are two countries named China on this planet and in fact we are not living in the same country?

After dinner,I looked very carefully at the people walking on my way home.I saw about 40 people and nobody was walking like that. But I have to admit I've seen some people did that before. And most of them seemed very tired or upset.

If you really want to relate this to culture, yes,it has something to do with culture. My father knocked my head few times for dragging feet.We call this kind of behavior 不像样子

djangolee:

plus, frankly speaking, dragging feet is regarded as a kind of Lazy and frivolous behavior. But some people now don't take it seriously. They prefer a simple life style without thinking too much.I don't appreciate it but I think it's OK,no big deal.

it could be just that to foreigners notice things like this. for example if you go to London, you would probably notice a difference in the way people walk and hold themselves. It is probably a cultural thing

In fact because of knocking head things I mentioned above,I often pay much attentions on people's behavior. But I don't really see people do that a lot..Maybe you are right it's a foreigner notice thing.

I walked over 20 kms one night in heat and came home walking like that and at the same pace. I usually walk faster than Chinese. Dragging your feet is lower impact on the knees.

But I've always said there were zombies in China,,,,, money,,,money,,,give me money.....

How have I never noticed this in China? I've only witnessed disabled people doing that... but I almost never notice anyone's shoes or feet. I always pay attention to their faces and hands, in case they're reaching for a weapon.

Oh! Funny story about weapons... I was walking down the streets of Changsha one time with my gangster suit, and one guy was about to start making lots of popcorn. As I walked by, he started exploding the corn kernels and it immediately startled me and gave me flashbacks from Vietnam.

I'm too young to have fought in the Vietnam War... so that's some powerful stuff right there. Anyway, I immediately dove to the ground and pulled out my... uh, my water gun. Yeah, that's it... water gun. Anyway, I got my water gun ready to return... water, not fire. Water.

Everyone was just walking by and looking at me like I was an insignificant nutjob...
