For international fligths you should be at HKG airport minimum 2 hours prior, better 3 for the long lines to check in and go thru customs and immigration.  That will make you arriving at airport at 7 am at the latest, leaving Guangzhou at 4 am at the latest, suggest earlier.
Border crossing is open 24/7, and 3-1/2 hours is the right time to allow for the trip to Hkg airport.
The only way you can get out of Guangzhou at 4 am or earlier will be by taxi or a limo, and being a foreigner it will cost you upwards of 1000 Rmb.

Find out the latest bus from Guangzhou to HKG airport the night prior, and get on it, and sleep at airport.  That will be your best bet.  CTS bus line has offices at China Hotel and at Landmark Canton Hotel in Guangzhou.  Be alert checking that no one take your luggage from below the bus at any stop, I have seen many suitcases stolen.

From memory (BUT CHECK IT OUT), last bus leaves Guangzhou at 10 o'clock or 11 o'clock.  It will be about 235 Rmb for the trip

dyanisis:

yes with a little more searching ti think thats the best bet, but there is a train going from guangzhou which gets to hung hom at 11.35pm........at least i wint have as long to wait if i take the train............but i have been checking out the bus too...........thanks man

First of all, is the poster above 100% sure that the Shenzhen - Hong Kong border is open 24 / 7?  It was my understanding that it closed at night for a period of time but things could have changed.

Secondly, instead of all of this shlepping around, why not go to Guangzhou East Train Station and take either the last fast train to Hong Kong out in the evening or the first one out in the morning?  It's a tremendously quick journey and outbound customs / immigration are done in Guangzhou prior to boarding the train. The train is sealed 30 minutes, I believe, before departure time.

It is easy to get from the Hong Kong train station to Hong Kong airport.  As some have suggested, you may wish to sleep at Hong Kong airport.

The overland bus can be really cumbersome and can run late on the occasion.

A:Good question!  I'd say, if you study at Uni in China beside working full-time as an E.T. with Residence permit, you don't interfere with your full-time employment. It's your free time and you can do anything you want, with respect to the Chinese laws and customs. Have a look at terms of Z visa/Residence permit and ... ".. you cannot work (and earn monies!) with another employer ..."That's all it is! Your RP sponsor title is written on the RP stamp in your passport, I think. It's in Mandarin, so I've heard about that from someone ...At I.D.-ing by cops, they know where you work and than more details about you are just a phone call away ... and it happened in person ... LOL ... during the day-time stroll through Wulumuqi, Xinjiang, 2012/13 semester. Now under RP, you're free to surf Internet, jog, ... and study, too. I suggest, you look and ask at the Uni, you plan to study in the future. Have a detailed look at requirements for studying and attending chosen Uni.Good luck! -- icnif77
