Q: Feed me... your suggestions.
Time for our little monthly get-together.
Changes and fixes implemented over the last few weeks:
- URLs have been changed
- Number of comments displayed on main page beside each question
- 3 viewing options available for the 'Most Popular' tab
- Alert notices now fixed (mail me if you still have issues)
- First answers now provide 2 points, not 4
- Host of bug fixes
Upcoming changes:
- Line breaks (will be fixed today or Monday)
- New editor's bars with new emoticons, new options, clearer interface, etc.
- An 'Answers of the Day' page, with all past good answers
- Spell check when writing answers
- Clearer forum interface when writing topic
- Private messages will appear like a normal conversation between people (not separate messages), ala iPhone, Facebook, etc.
- Ability to delete and edit forum posts
- Advanced search options for those wishing to view only comments, answers, etc.
- 1 point awarded for a daily login
- Random question: clicking on this icon will take you, as advertised, to a random question on the site
Changes we are considering:
- chat
- block user
- polls
- virtual gifts, affordable with points
- question of the week
In terms of more far-reaching objectives, over the course of the next two-three months, the entire eChinacities website will be migrating platforms. There will be major design changes across the board. This will also impact the Answers section, for which we have plans to load it up with a lot more tools, gadgets, feature boxes, etc. This essentially means that what we CAN implement right now are small changes or fixes. The big stuff will come later on.
So, as always, if you have any issues with the finished or planned changes, say so here. More importantly, my ears are always perked for any suggestions that would make you happy.
B.C.
I have a new comments alert up that I can't get rid of.
can you do it please?
I think, by the sounds of it all, it's just great what you're doing! Keep up the good work!
But, if you had a wu mao detector (and auto-blocker), that'd just be great
it keeps saying that i have a new comment but i do have anew comment how do i fix it and and cut and paste does not work that well also

i could not help my self i have problems
To ease the recent tensions, I would like to suggest a Maddy day, where for one day, instead of worrying about keeping face and being serious internet experts, we just ask the first questions that come into our head, then try to provide our own answers. You could turn points off for that one special day so no one abuses it.
I think it would be a fun experiment in John Cage-like "purposeless play" and self-discovery.
philbravery:
hahahahahahahahaha we could call it skitso day so no personalitys feel left out
I have noticed one thing: if I post an answer and someone comments, then I get a notification, which is great. But if I post a comment/response to someone else's answer and they in turn respond to me, I'd have no way of knowing, short of trawling back through all the comments I've made. Would there be a way to have responses to comments come up as a notification?
My Dear Favorite Cat,
I accidently hit thumbs down instead of thumbs up just now. I blame sleep-posting.
I would really appreciate the ability to change our votes either way, for those moments we do what we didn't mean too.
If you do this for us, I will give you lots of catnip AND have Mattaya change your kitty litter for a whole month. :)
Thank you!
Huggy Panda
How about having a 'return to home page' button at the bottom of the page, as well as the top... very handy for extremely long posts, and you want a refreshed homepage, rather than just hitting 'back'...????
Request you to allow username change, if not the registered email ID.. especially for the Answers section and Forums. For example, one would not want to have the same username for searching jobs on echinacities and the same username when caught up in a flame war on some forum

Then make another account just for uploading your resume. Problem solved.
What's with the first letter of the comments being replaced by 1?
Could you explain why information on some less popular cities is not avalibale?
sometimes ive a need for info on other areas for housing and find it difficult to get it.
are you expanding in this area soon?
thanks for your time
we also need a mouse icon so we can feed you from time to time
adminanswer:
1hat do you mean exactly? Questions on the Q&A or all the articles we have on our home site?
There's the above mentioned "1" thing, plus sometimes I get a point for "login". These logins generally happen when I'm not logged in, for example last night when I was sleeping, yesterday when I was in class. Kind of creepy...
DaBen:
1hat's just because I log in for you. Sometimes I like to dress up in pretty closes and pretend to be other people. But seriously, I never actually log out, so I'm not sure what the cat has set the system for because I've been even getting random log in time.
some answers start with 1 for some reason. plaese fix it.
bribe
there is more where this came from if you fix the problem.
i get votes up but i cannot see what i got a vote up for this annoys me because then i go what the h*** did someone like. you should add a list feature that way you can see every thing people liked.
more bribe do not tell.
my fav
There is more where this came from if you add this feature
adminanswer:
Go to 'My points' and click on the points awarded for a vote. It will take you directly to your answer.
Post another picture and this thread will turn into feline-frenzied delete fest.
i have had questions taken down with out an answer what is wrong about wanting thin mints in china. also i cannot access your cat profile or send mail to your cat mail box why.
adminanswer:
You tried looking everywhere?
Check again. Might be hidden in my litter box somewhere.
Jíliú.hé:
still cannot get to you and all the messages you sent me are gone to
Just a suggestion it would be beneficial for users to receive points on the questions they have asked and not just the answers. I really don't see a point of having the thumbs up or down on a question. Some people really need their questions answered and other people are coming around marking them down it might draw them away from this site.
I don't think the main purpose is the thumbs up or down when asking a question. If more people post questions that they really need to be answered see that people don't respect their question they will leave. imo. I think it should only be up to the admincat to decide if a question should stay or not. The points up or down on a question to me is not needed.
It kinda reminds me of when your in a classroom. And the teacher says raise your hand if you have a question. And then other students laugh at that student because they think the question is dumb. It discourages the kid asking the question and it may discourage users. Just like what the teacher always says respect other people. So in this case I would think that the thumbs up or down should be taken down if no points are awarded and the only person to decide if it should be taken down is the admin cat without any influence on behalf of others.
Jíliú.hé:
good point but reason does not always win my friend. PS i posted a question about recruiters earlier got any tips
DaBen:
We don't laugh at the kid for asking a dumb question. We laugh at the kid that constantly ask dumb questions.
Jíliú.hé:
who decides they are dumb you the mighty DaBen the every whise one.
HugAPanda:
we voted, and when the votes add up to three or more, then it is considered a dumb question or answer.
