If you grin and bear something, you put up with it.
If you grin and bare it, depending upon where you are, you may be arrested.

The best thing to do in those grin and bear it situations is to grin and beer it.

If you put some thought into it..the use of "bear" in the idiom, means to endure hardship regardless of suffering...using "bare" means smile and show it for all to see....which have similar but not identical implications...

Personally, I prefer the BEER OPTION  first and then the bare option. can bear with the consequences later.

According to the interwebs, it's 'bear' - as in, to suffer through something.

However, I can see how 'bare' would work... bare your soul, lay bare the honest truth... etc

Stiggs:

"Suffer through something"...       like a prostate exam  or STD test for example?  I think both bare and bear would work in that situation.
